Incidentally, this fat green is pleasantly legible, in contrast to the headache thin green, so perchance you might consider to in future choose the fat?

What he said; the bolded colour is infinitely preferable, and I for one would really appreciate it if you switched to it, Focus.

All colored text and weird fonts are a pain in the ass to read. IMO it is more appropriate for grade school girls who feel the need to make their writing all pretty and special with a My Little Pony pen set than for adults communicating on an adult site.

I've skipped over a lot of posts because I don't have the patience to court eyestrain and headache.  Sometimes selecting and highlighting the text helps, sometimes it doesn't.  I wish to hell there was an option that let me turn off all "creative" text formatting on the viewer end, because frankly I hate it.

I'm not the boss of anyone else here, so I can't tell other people not to whimsically write their posts in crayon if it really pleases them to do so.  I can only say that I personally dislike the results a lot.

Yet another reason for you to prefer Fet, LNT.  That way, everybody can conform.

Fet has its own eyestrain issues.

Yes, I do tend to be a cheerless old grouch when it comes to how I prefer to read written media.  I don't appreciate creative frills and decoration in my text.  I generally have more respect for a clean, clear, easy to read, professional looking presentation.  That part is a personal choice.  The headache and eyestrain part isn't, sadly.  I wish it was.

I'll field this one.

It really, REALLY hurts!!!
There's the shock of initial impact but the pain takes a few seconds to kick in. The agony grows and increases, creating a deep, sickening feeling, that spreads through your whole body. There's nothing you can do but fold into a fetal position, breath and try not to throw up.

DemonKia linked to this a while ago - Fet doesn't *have* to have eyestrain issues.

There's always the hide option.  [:)]

I think I'll be sticking with My non professional look.

LadyNTrainer -> RE: what are your thoughts? (1/13/2011 7:16:15 PM)

@VaguelyCurious: Thank you; that was quite helpful.  I'm still looking for a better script that will render the link text in higher contrast, but that was a great starting point.

@LP: Just because I am a major Grinch when it comes to the written word does not mean I labor under the delusion that everyone else must write to please me.  As I am not the Uber-Arch-Domme-Of-All-Dommes, I have no right to tell another adult not to creatively express themselves in a way that pleases them.   I will however be honest about what I think of the results.  I think it looks like you're writing in crayon.  But your sig puts it nicely: I don't get a vote, just an opinion.

It is legible. I do not know what I would do if LadyPact made it cursive as well, though. I might regretfully Hide it then.

I have at least a handful of others, perhaps as much as a dozen, on Hide for reason of using an illegible font. Frankly, I consider it a sign that at least a few of them are more crazy than I.

Nothing like sound consumer advice.

Do keep telling us how to conform to the one-true-way when we're doing it wrong.

Option 3 - try not reading it at all?

That indeed is an option, but fortunately your posts are well worth reading, so I choose to skip that third option.

Incidentally, this fat green is pleasantly legible, in contrast to the headache thin green, so perchance you might consider to in future choose the fat?

The "fat" green was merely the 'bold' option. And I yousta use that all the time but a few too many felt I was always "shouting". Can't please everyone from within the spot light - and the show must go on....

And like you said (sorta), just click/drag the mouse (highlight) and any coloured font becomes white on soft blue.

Thanks so much for (re) posting this! White on black is like nails on a chalkboard for me and has prevented me from spending more than seconds on FL.

Yay for useful links! Glad I could help you guys out. :-)

And Focus, don't kid yourself: it doesn't matter whether or not you bold your font - you always sound like you're shouting. [8D][8D][8D]

Puh-leeze.  What part of "I'm not the boss of anyone else here" was hard to understand?  You have the right to write any way you want to.  I have the right to giggle because I think it looks like you're using a My Little Pony crayon set and coloring what you write cause you're a special snowflake.  There isn't any one true way, only individual preferences.  And individual eyestrain.  [8|]

In keeping with the theme of this thread, I'm guessing you preferred "fat" green because you found it deliciously humiliating to write in an overweight font. Right?[;)]

For the record, and not that my opinion should matter very much, I'm with LNT to the extent that I don't really see the point of weirdly coloured text unless it's being used to distinguish questions from answers or something. It generally doesn't give me eyestrain, though.

General comment on the thread. I can kind of, sort of see what the man the OP was talking to had in mind. As a masochist, I find it exciting to be subjected to unpleasantness. Submitting to someone I found unattractive (which, for me, has a lot more to do with attitude and demeanour than physique) and fundamentally didn't want to be around would be unpleasant, so I naturally find the idea kind of hot. Obviously this wouldn't be a healthy basis for a relationship, and I can't imagine that many dominant women would enjoy this kind of interaction even in the short term. But if I were looking, and came across a nasty, sour, bad-tempered, unappealing sadist who was detached or just plain sociopathic enough to enjoy smacking me around without giving a damn what I thought of her... well, I might give it a try.

I've seen folks all over the spectrum on this.  I have seen some complaints on multiple colored texts.  Lately, I've seen a few folks have something to say on various fonts.  The most recent kick seems to be on writing that is above normal size.  There was a thread recently where I asked someone to alter what he was using on a thread because I honestly couldn't read what he was trying to discuss.  I asked politely and he was willing to change for the course of the thread.

To date, I haven't had anyone complain about eyestrain.  I've also had more folks tell Me that they appreciate the different color because they don't have to look far to see that it's Me typing.  This is also an added benefit to Me, as it is very easy to find My own last post on a long thread so that I can pick it up where I left off.

You're right (naturally), we're all too dumb to notice your colossal ego means you can make retractions and talk down to people simultaneously. Who needs substance and sincerity when the Internet allows such wonderful anonymity.... As I told LadyPact, I don't do roleplay but just how BAD can one strutting dommy be....?

As I told Rule, you can always skip over. Online "shouting" isn't exactly as invasive as someone raising their voice at you.

Though perhaps he's right, that I'm an entertaining must-read regardless...? It's all about the fans, incl the "anti-fans". Whichever one you are.... ;)

Cheers.

Another vote for the "biege" of conformity? I'm thinking China 40 years ago when everyone dressed in the same drab grey work clothes and rode the same drab grey push bikes. Sweeeeeeeeet....

Anyhoo, I don't do humiliation for the masses so, no, it was merely personal preference that most forum sites (not BBC, of course) make available. And "weirdly" coloured text can certainly be annoying (yellow comes to mind), which is why I found it easy to just highlight it with the mouse. Too complex for some - granted....

And Rule's criticisms aside, there's buggar-all difficulty in reading my green - give me a break. Tiny font size, on the other hand, that is an issue - highlighting doesn't fix that....

I was kidding; did the three smileys not clue you in? [8D]

And I'm neither a fan nor an anti-fan. I'm just someone who sees your posts on a forum and sometimes doesn't read them because of the colour. That's all.
