Every time I ever shipped UPS privately when I paid with my debit card I had to show ID, what is so new about this?  Want to bet "business" shippers show no ID?  Want to bet a terrorist working for a business that ships UPS doesn't already know this? Get off it there will be ways around this like there is everything else.  As usual America is reactive to terrorism instead of proactive.

If a package with a bomb on it comes thru a UPS or fed ex carrier and  blew up killing several people, the company would be sued out of existance for not being security conscious enough.
Is this another "right" being infringed?
This is not just happening in the US  either
After finding the bombs in packages a few weeks ago, Im not in the least surprised they have implemented this.
I refuse to use UPS unless its an emergency , I have to admit.
I can see the USPS and Canada post getting a lot more business until they clamp down too

I always have to show my ID when using my debit or credit card. Don't see what the big deal is.

well yeah...when I signed up for C.com I had to give up some of my personal identification information.

Im guessing you might have an issue if someone was allowed to pick up a parcel for you without proving they are"you"?

I have had to do that a few times but 98% of the time I never have to show ID.

And I rarely use cash because the cards that I have offer cash-back discounts on all my purchases.

My understanding is the cards are guaranteed so the merchant is not liable, the same way you are protected from someone else using your card.

Well then cash and postage stamps ALSO but have unique identifiers on them to denote the sender and recipient.

Lucy, UPS, the USPS and FedEx drop off packages for me all the time and just leave them on my porch when I am not home.

What if its a sig required parcel
I wont send a parcel anywhere in the US without a sig request or tracking number , and while you are physcially in your home to receive it is one thing, you go to an office to pick it up..you will have to show ID.
I dont use Fed ex or UPS anymore because of the cost and other dumbass requirements for declarations, and this is basically from canada post to USPS.

I dont like UPS or Fed Ex, Ive been sending parcels out weekly for ten years.this is just an added layer of security as far as Im concerned.I still wont use them, lol

I can't answer for him, but I think I understand his objections to it.

At what point do we let fear overtake us?

Isn't that the purpose of terrorism, to create fear?

The tracking only means it made it to the persons mail box.  It does not mean the person personally received it.
