You were talking about the UK, in fact the London protests against the raised university fees, in the UK The Crown is usually used for the state prosecution services, it's a matter of speech, a bit like in the US "The people versus ...." It's not all the people...

It's truly about as relevant as bald patches and tooth restoration are for student fees, mind you, I would think that students are generally fairly young, so less of them might suffer from baldness or bad teeth...

Status: offline 		It's actually how I talk in real life too, might be a result of having gotten a DVD of the Mary Whitehouse Experience, and quite liked the character of Ray - "Oh no, what a personal disaster".

I have been told that telling somebody to eff off or swearing just doesn't work in a posh accent (though I don't think I have one, I just have sort of a neutral accent, some people say it sounds very vaguely Scandinavian with Irish and American traces, others decided I sound "plummy" - whatever that means), so I had to find other means to express myself, especially since I tend to work in an environment where effing and blinding is usually frowned upon.

Status: offline 		I most certainly don't talk like I have a plum in my mouth, I think I wouldn't be able to pronounce things well speaking around a plum. I just take care to avoid regional accents since I'm currently living oop North and as much as I enjoyed Oasis, I have little desire to sound like one of the Gallagher brothers (could be worse though, sound like Ozzy or a Scouser).

Oh, and I checked with my traffic cop mate and he said your "attorney" (not the UK term but no worries) friend is wrong about assault/violent crime and license loss through psychological profiling, in the UK at least. If the vehicle is used in a serious crime then the vehicle can be seized. If the driver is directly using the vehicle to commit acts of violence (such as armed robbery getaway driver or running people over deliberately) then the license can be seized if the offence contains references to violence, to prevent them doing it again. But nowhere in the statues is there anything about taking someone's license away as a direct result of a non-vehicular act of violence. In other words, if you chin someone in a pub, or beat your wife/husband, they aren't going to say "s/he's got anger management issues" and take your license away.

The only possible thing he thought someone may have confused it with was if someone is sectioned for a violent act then the sectioning doctors can request suspension of their driving license if they can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the sectioned person is likely to harm themselves and/or others using a vehicle. But it's apparently very rare (he's seen it done twice in 16 years on the job).
