kinkbound -> U.S. Policy = Support the Dictators, Screw the People. (12/12/2010 8:33:23 AM)

U.S. policy toward Central Asia was transparently cynical: support the dictators, screw the people.

Read article here.

What do you mean, was? It's current policy as well. Always has been, most likely always will be.

Good point.

I lazily copied and pasted a line from the article itself.

It is the responsibility of the people of any nation to demand, mold, and instill the government they desire...not the US.

This is true in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Iran, the US and central Asia. Unless they stand up and make the necessary sacrifices to have the type of government they want they deserve what they get.

If we did not make the deals would that have made their lot in life any better? I think not in fact it would have taken away jobs making things worse. Our sticking our noses into other countries business is what got us where we are today.

Change must come from the inside matching the wants and needs of the people not from a foreign power with their noses in the air thinking there way is always best.

We in the US…and you… need to learn this lesson.

Butch

The leaks so far really have not been surprising.

Perhaps you didn't read the article with an open mind.

It is the interference and meddling of the US that makes it so much more difficult for these people to install their own government.

thats not the way it works but dream on

Interview - Confessions of an Economic Hit Man - Part I

the US sent in ambassadors Tom-Cat Cruise, Bee-One Stealth and Depleted-Uranium Tip to use their expert negotiation strategies to broker a democratic consent of the shot at, eerrm I mean consent of the governed solution.   Just like home sweet home 1861.

That didn't work very well in Nicaragua for the Sandinistas, did it? It's all well and good the people making a choice, but if well-armed thugs with the backing of a superpower decide to burn it all down, then what are the people to do? Or when you say 'sacrifice' do you mean their lives?

US Policy = support whoever is more closely aligned with the interest of the US

same as every other fucking city, state, and country in the world.

No you misunderstand my post...I want us to stop meddling in other people's business but we are not the world's angels...we must look out for ourselves first just as every other country does. We should not put our economy at risk because people are too weak to stand up for their rights.

It is not our place to decide who should govern or who should not it is up to the people of that country. Neither should we suffer because of their weaknesses. They should stand up and take control or live with the consequences of their cowardice.

Think of all the successful nations of this world and how they were formed and reformed. All were the result of change from within despite interference from outside governments. This is a fact not crying heart oh the poor oppressed bullshit.

This is why its important for Bush and Obama to prevent transparency in government, on behalf of their masters' direct orders.

I misunderstood you. Apologies.

We've always backed dictators and tyrants if it suited our purpose at the time.

Same thing. the interest of the moneyed are the same as the interests of eeryone else: maintain democracy, capitalism and the freedom to succeed or fail based on your own efforts and abilities.

Which is not why we back them.

You can say that again!

quote:

we must look out for ourselves first just as every other country does. We should not put our economy at risk because people are too weak to stand up for their rights.

And does this include not funding dictators who allow us to extract their natural resources and/or install strategic military bases?

Like the millions who perished under Hitler or Stalin?

I suppose it depends upon your definition of successful, and your thoughts regarding the people and cultures that have been replaced.

Careful there bro. With talk like that, this list will soon place you in Hunky and RO's category.

Don't you know that everything the government and mainstream media tells you is true, and that there are no conspiracies? Only the tin-foil hats believe that Bush and Obama are just figureheads. [;)]
