Is it? I don't know if having the bedspins is particularly funny, the few times when I called god on the big porcelain phone I felt more like dying.

Though I do have to admit it is great fun to wind people up who are suffering from hangovers, I had a field day today, as I said, other half and another senior guy got absolutely legless, I managed to wake them up gently (big dog and 2 frisky cats helped) and since a friend of mine was coming for lunch, I prepared some food, the recipe had apple slices gently fried after being dipped in sherry, then drizzled in sherry and flambéed, served with butterfly steaks (pork filets really but due to the cut they look like a butterfly), sauteed potatoes and butter peas.

The mere question "Would you guys like a Sherry?" had them rushing towards the bathrooms, they then left the house to get a "Full English fry up" and I could have a pleasant lunch with my friend in peace and quiet.

I just made a nice sauce for the Gnocci later and asked other half which wine he would like with it and he turned a bit greenish and said he'd be fine with just water. He thinks I'm very understanding and wonderful that I never give him a hard time when he's been in his cups the night before (doesn't happen all that often anymore) and I'm not going to enlighten him, I asked him to take the doggie for a long walk, because "It will do your hangover good", it's all in the presentation, I tell ya!

Status: offline 		I’ll bet if you were to meet the nutcases face to face they would be polite normal people and you would have no idea how radical they can be.

The internet and message boards in particular allow people to be as radical as they want to be without the consequences. Some really believe what they are spouting and others just like to be provocateurs.

I like to debate and at times will take an opposing view especially when I feel someone is getting beat upon unnecessarily. I’ve found I learn a lot by forcing myself to defend an opposing view point. An old debating teacher of mine would ask for hands to defend a particular position… then he would switch us around.

Now be truthful… would you come to Politics and Religion or Off Topic if everyone was polite and dispassionate? I know I wouldn’t…I’m here to have fun and if I get the blood pressure up a little all the better.

I will ALWAYS be polite unless I am attacked and even then I find myself liking the people who attack me, if they have a sense of humor anyway. Something like when I was a kid and got into a fight….after it was over we were sometimes the best of friends…or at least respected each other.

I don't know if you caught this from earlier in the thread (it's back several pages now) but we really do know this on our side of the pond.  We honestly don't judge all of you by the worst examples.  When it happens to be someone English who is just spouting bile, we don't think that all of you are that nasty and full of contempt. 

I will say one thing.  I have noticed how often your countrymen have spoken up on threads and even sent private emails on occasion to say that they don't want people to think a certain individual is representative of all of you.  (This happens to be a person that multiple people have told Me that they have this individual on hide or have mentioned somewhere that they were thinking of putting him on hide.)  While I think it's very polite, it makes Me feel almost apologetic that some folks feel that this person is such an embarrassment to your entire country.



Is it me?

Why the class system? Personally I get along better with blue-bloods and white-collar, but I've chatted briefly with council workers and the like, and the old line from "Desiderata" is quite true, they too have their own story, and occasionally quite intriguing ones, too..

About a year and half some young lad and I were chatting in a pub smack in the middle of a forest, he was a pipe fitter or whatnot, and remarked "You know mate you're alright for a posh bloke"....like I go around enunciating like Prince fucking Phillip!!




It could easily just be the way I see things - I can't experience the world in the same way as anyone else, so I can never be sure if what I am feeling is right or wrong, but...

My background is very, very working class. Bought up in a council house, first of my family ever to go to Uni (at the age of 26)...

I've seen things as a working class lad, and a middle class adult, and now I feel uncomfortable with both. I am very aware of social class. But there is a certain type of middle class that really winds me up. I've seen it here, and clearly I encounter it at times in the real world - how could I not? It's the arrogant tosspot in an open-necked shirt who knows everything and won't hear any other perspective on things. It's the ignorant fool who somehow gets by because the shite he talks is pronounced in perfect RP, which, as we all know, renders even the most arrant nonsense into genius.

Maybe there isn't a link. maybe I'm seeing something that isn't there, but sometimes, I just get tired of having to deal with people who are confident and loud and assertive and really annoying, and getting away with it, because they happen to have a nice accent or a nice way with words.

But it's not all of the middle class, by any means. Just some of 'em.

Not attention seeking, just critical of your behaviour. But I can see how it's easier for you to conflate the two than actually accept that asking the question is a breach of etiquette.

Status: offline 		To Lady Pact - Love Bill Cosby.  Thank you for that wonderful video.  I went to a party last week, and I think every one of those folks was there!  LOL.  I suppose it is like the hide button - I rarely go out because I don't like to be around drunk people.  So I "hide" them by not going to the bar.  I'd forgotten how much fun people can be on the way there.  Once they get to the "drunk" place, not so attractive, but the process can be entertaining.

i've only hidden one poster. i thought it would help me save time from feeling a need to read their posts which i found utterly useless every time i read them.  And it did!
i'd hope someone would hide me, if they thought that way about my posts.  i'd rather my posts were hidden than a consistent irritant whether major or minor.

I have never blocked anyone here on the boards, because I feel that the boards are more or less community property, kind of like a public park where I have no cause or prerogative to tell other kids they cannot play. If I don't want to read someone's posts, I either skip right over them, read them and laugh, or avoid those threads where the likelihood of negativity is greatest.
If anyone has bothered to block me, it is neither any skin off my nose nor cause for concern. To each their own annoyances, which is to say, life is so much simpler once I decided I didn't give a fuck. Yanno?
