I only have one current poster on hide.  I did that because I got sick of being exposed to his vitriol.  his attitude towards a certain subject DID get to me, much as I wish otherwise, but it's a subject that is near and dear to my heart.

There are a couple of past posters who I had hidden (anyone remember the candystripper?..  the doll?).

I have two on hide. One bounced on and off at times. The other is permanent. The rest, i selectively ignore.

I know I had Kana on hide for a little while - I'm sure he will be devastated to learn about it! - because he had a picture that gave me the heebie jeebies.  Then one day Geets said something about his new photo, and I unhid him.  YAY!

Wouldn't it be awesome if the world had a "hide" button?   Instead of the violence, hatred and waste...just click a button, and they are silent :)  I only have one poster on CM that I block, and that is only because his bitterness and hatred is something I chose to ignore...however..I could think of a whole lot of folks from my daily interactions I would like to "click" into non existence. 

Sorta like the corn field.  :)

I currently only have one person on hide - a person who falls into the category of being a troll so bad that it's just not entertaining to read.

I've temporarily hidden a couple of others - because of their hopelessly nasty and negative posts.

I dream of being hidden by one poster, but I'm so glad there's no way of this person hiding his/her posts from me - because I find the shit this poster produces absolutely hilarious!

I have a few hidden and there are severe on hand.  The guy who thinks we are entitled to "listen" about his mistress fisting him, a couple (or 1 person) with the nuts to create several profiles to back themselves up (and we know who they are) and my personal best...the poor woman who weeps for the men who have no foreskins. (I had lovers on sides and it does not matter to me.)

Putting someone on hide, makes me curious about what is under there.
It would take months or years worth of information/evidence, for me to decide, someone is nothing but negative energy on the boards.   Usually, when I've found someone to unbearable to read, I don't have difficulty skipping/not responding to him/her.    M

I have the posts of 64 people on Hide at the moment. Most of them do not post anymore in any case; I guess that they are dead. A few persistently keep on posting and apparently refuse to die.

My reasons for putting posts of specific persons on Hide:
1. The use of illigible font
2. They got me into trouble with a mod
3. They might get me into trouble with a mod (often persons with less than 200 posts)
4. Extreme narrow mindedness
5. Using unedited quotes within quotes within quotes...
6. Being obnoxious
7. Being evil and / or mean spirited
8. Vulgarity
9. Having an avatar that I prefer not to see
10. Having a natural antipathy against them

Indeed, sometimes the decision to Hide is quickly taken, but in other cases it is a process of accumulation which may take many months or even up to a year.

I so far haven't put anyone on hide.
 
I'm like Hillwilliam, I want to know what they are doing now.
The ones who bother me, I just roll my eyes and move on.
 
Life is too short to get bothered by what someone writes from the safety of a computer.
They can sit behind their monitor and spew their hate and crap.
The only one they hurt is themselves.
 
Face to face might be a differnt story.

With the exception of obvious scammers and trolls, I didn’t block/hide anyone for a long time on the pretext that I was “open minded” and that you “can’t have understanding without communication.” I was rather proud of myself for this policy. The day came, however, when I realized that putting up with some assholes was too high a price for mere self flattery.

I now have five people blocked/hidden on this side:

One for overweening arrogance that I just couldn’t stomach anymore.

One for being a Holocaust Denier (the racist nazi fucktard).

One for casting aspersions upon my family (people that they had never even met).

Two for taking my comments out of context and then accusing me of being a racist – such an assault upon my character is 180 degrees out of whack (I despise bigotry in any form, and my family is multi-racial) and is completely unacceptable.

I do not look upon using the block/hide buttons as weak or cowardly, I look upon it as the internet equivalent of slamming a door in someone’s face because they just aren’t worth talking too anymore.

There was a Russian (if memory serves) performance artist recently who wired himself into a machine that gave him ever increasing jolts of electricity but only if people voted to do so via his net site. The idea was (and I think I get what he's saying) that it's necessary to demonstrate to the world sometimes that people are basically good or basically bad, and that the internet desensitises people to the humanity of others; in other words not many people would punch someone in the face upon first meeting them, but there are many people who would be prepared to remotely electrocute someone via a mouse click.

He did it for days, to the point it was felt to be potentially damaging to him. Some of the footage was quite disturbing.

Don't really know why I posted that. I guess I just felt like it [;)]
