They are making fun of DUCK TAPE (the original name given to it)

Come on   give me a break.

Both references are correct

I am proud to be an American and affirm that the United States of America is one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I embrace the historical heritage of the Redneck. This heritage includes men wearing red scarves around their necks while escaping religious persecution in Scotland centuries ago. It includes farmers whose hard work in the sun-drenched fields of this nation’s breadbasket burned their necks crimson red while keeping Americans fed. As a Redneck, I work hard and I play hard. As a Redneck, I am able to laugh at myself. In short, as an American Redneck, I have a sense of country and a sense of humor.

I think that seems pretty wonderful.  Would you be making fun of another culture and feel comfortable about it?

I'd like to know about the "education" that is being taught to the young folks, but all in all, why not?  Hard-working, good, salt of the earth people who feed our country and carry the load on their backs are rednecks.

If their educational program is about teaching the newest farming techniques or supports teaching people how to hunt for food or something like that, why not support them?  I couldn't get through to read everything from the website, but the above quote is from the homepage.  Seems pretty reasonable to me.

I don't particularly care for NASCAR, but I love me some Toby Keith.  I may not live on the farm, but I sure do respect the farmer that puts food on the tables of you and me.  I don't know how to hunt, but I have certainly had Bambi-stew.

best,
sunshine
of Scottish descent, granddaughter of a farmer, from the breadbasket of the USA, working hard, playing hard, proud of the fundamental beliefs my country was built on, and able to laugh at myself... proudly redneck from way back.

lol

DMFParadox -> RE: Man launches 'American Redneck Society'... (12/17/2010 8:26:32 AM)

Dudes having fun with the labels other people apply to them. I approve.

$20 is nothing for a home for a good joke. If I'd ever been called a redneck in my life, I'd pay. Is there a similar site for egotistical bastards?

DomYngBlk -> RE: Man launches 'American Redneck Society'... (12/17/2010 8:39:50 AM)

Wonder if I can join?

Are you a farmer?

I know people think of rednecks as bigots (I think that's what you're alluding to here DYB).  Like all groups - some are, some aren't.  Only the loud idiots get press (also like other groups).

There were some Hare Krishnas who came to a farming town.  They asked to be able to camp in the church yard.  Well, the people got together and discussed it.  Of course some folks said no they shouldn't be allowed to - they were "those kind of " people.  And one very quiet woman stood up and said, "This is G*d's house.  If you knock, he will open the door.  We ought to do the same.  This is G*d's house.  Everyone is welcome here.  This is my G*d's house.  Don't limit my G*d with prejudice."  And with that she sat down fully intending to allow the people to put their tents up on her farm if the church said no.  I'm thinking she would have left the church as well.  The church allowed the Hare Krishnas to camp in the yard.  And they had a welcome dinner for them.

Rednecks.  What are you gonna do?

The egotisticalbastards.com domain is up for grabs. I may do this.

It sounds like a scheme to make some cash.    Discounts?  HA!   One can get them thru a variety of "memberships".

BTW- I like farmers- but hate NASCAR.

Louve00 -> RE: Man launches 'American Redneck Society'... (12/17/2010 9:16:28 AM)

Well, I'm not sure any of you know what a true redneck is [8D]

After googling "where did the term redneck originate from", I came up with a few different links and a few different definitions, too.  Apparently, a redneck originated in WV and it was a term associated with a good thing.  (at least thats the answer I picked lol)

Where did the term Redneck come fromI was told a couple of versions ,
The farmers out west would spend all their time watching their crops grow and got a red neck from the sun ,
The other , I forgot .
Any Ideas folks .

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters I just watched this on the History Channel: The term comes from the color of the scarves that union coal miners wore in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Back then, it was a positive status symbol to wear a red scarf - that you were in the worker's union. Since most worker's unions were in the south, the term became generalized to refer to states and it's people as union (worker's union, not Union/Confederate) or non-union. Slowly the general population forgot why the union workers wore red scarves, but continued to call them "rednecks".

It's actually a fun word to google for a definition.  Wiki on answers.com said this about rednecks.....

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_did_the_name_%27redneck%27_come_from  (I found this one in sync with the above definitions, but went a bit further) [:)]

From reading the OP's link though.  It seems like a bunch of good ole "rednecks" just having some fun with the label, as it was already mentioned here.

I like that. It sounds a lot better than the story that it's just describing part of a farmer's tan. Even if that's bollocks, you'd prefer it to be true, wouldn't you?

PaHunk, I wonder if I could join?
I wasn't a farmer but I was a sailor for a lot of years helping to protect our country.
And, I carry a gun..
I like Willie Nelson but not Nascar. And I moved to S.Carolina from New Hampshire.
Oh, I drive a lincoln now but I used to drive a pickup truck.
But, if they hear my Boston accent they'll know I'm not from redneck country, maybe they could make me an "honorary" redneck.
