Oh well why didn't you just SAY SO! I mean that changes EVERYTHING!

Quickly everyone, we need to abandon ship!!! The TOS agreement we all agreed to restricts our Freedom of Speech because we aren't allowed to talk about certain illegal things here - never mind that there are other sites we can discuss them on!!!

OMG THANX 4 SHOWN US TEH LIGHT!!!

....

Seriously, you have no idea what free speech actually is do you? You know how to read right? So you knew when you joined this site that you can't discuss anything and everything here.

Because you value reading. Or so you claim anyway.

My guess is you are new and didn't know the lay of the land.
Just because you think you did nothing off doesn't mean you didn't.

However, respectfully offered: aren't you allowing yourself to get worked up over something that really isn't too earth shattering?

How important is it?

Why get so attached to this incident?

You also are making assumptions about how the site works, carrying your upset over to where it may not be actually be relevant. Your feelings are certainly relevant but your insistence that this side of CM has anything to do with chat may not be true.
BTW: for your further information "the other side" aka collarme is also separate from this side. For the most part the support staff is different.

Take a deep breath.

Given that you don't understand how freedom of speech works and are comparing chat room mods to a group of people who slaughtered 6+ million men, women, and children I really don't think you have room to talk in terms of intelligence and/or education.

That's a very measured response.

I was going to run with "oh put a sock in it you whiny little dumbass" but your response is better

As a side note though, and on the understanding that I've never visited the chat rooms on CM, it's been my experience that a) the forum mods here are, as you've said, generally excellent, and b) chat room mods do often seem, sooner or later, to get a little drunk on their own power - I've seen it happen in many different "types" of chat rooms (i.e. non BDSM "hobby" ones included). One of the most spectacular "eruptions" I've ever witnessed online happened in a chat room, where a mod went 5-ways apeshit at all and sundry.

"Power corrupts ..." ... but then again, if that were true, the forum mods would be worse, and they aren't. Quite the reverse in fact. A very measured and responsible lot, from what I've observed thus far at least. "Fair" is the word that springs to mind.

Then tell us what they freaking replied to you with!!!!!!  I have repeatedly stated that you gave us few details - you're deliberately withholding info.  That's ridiculous, to expect us to tell you what's happening based on an edited story.

Several people have told you that Freedom of Speech does not apply to a private site.  And you can't seem to comprehend that.  Perhaps you should not be lecturing us on our ability to read.

Tell ya what.  After you read the chatroom rules and figure out what you violated, then how about Googling the Free Speech Coalition and seeing what it means.

Your phrasing crossed my mind but I managed to resist... for a little bit.

For the record, I completely buy that the mod may have made a bad call. But given the OP's thin grasp on free speech, I really doubt he recited some numbers and got booted. For one, how would that even apply to free speech? Since when are prime numbers discriminated against? Free speech isn't the ability to say anything anytime - the infamous "shouting fire in a crowded building" example.

The issue isn't free speech, it's that the mods have the gavel on a site that is not obligated to uphold free speech - otherwise there would not be restricted topics - and the mods may have made a bad call. Report it to the admins and move on.

This one is easy. Create your own chat room. Your room, your rules. Then you can let everyone express themselves as they wish. As for first amendment laws, when pertaining to the internet state that people have a right to speak anonymously. By using screen names, they are anonymous. Just as your using the name of the person who booted you, is also somewhat anonymous, since you did not state the location of the room, and god knows how many people may use that same name in any given room.
She booted you, not because she was denying you the right to speak. You spoke. She booted you because she was on a power trip. As a room moderator (and anyone who creates, or is made a moderator by the room owner), has the right to boot.
Get your own room.

My post was to merely get ideas to how to rectify this, accusing or assuming I did wrong or affended someone is a sad statement on the purpose of the site.

Putting my "Mr Fair" hat on (and my, isn't it fetching!), I would say that good chat room "modding" is different from good forum/group modding; with chat rooms there are often many overlapping convos, and it's a split-second call, and in high throughput rooms there can be so many lines of text that the recipient of a ban can often miss the line where they get warned, and thus the ban comes as a shock, coz they were watching the cricket scores instead.

ETA: Whereas with forum modding one can take a more measured response, and be pretty certain, when you do post a little warning to some or all to tone it down a tad, that they're likely to have seen it. They're different skills; sort of like the difference between a skilled paramedic and a skilled surgeon.

I think he thinks the "Free Speech Coalition" is some sort of quality standards organisation which has signed up to a charter of free speech-y-ness, when, as we know, it's bog-all to do with such a thing.

Boston, you likely won't meet a bigger pain in the ass on Free Speech than you'll find me to be, but I still reserve the right to kick an idiot the fuck out of my living room.

Collarchat.com is a member of the Free Speech Coalitionmeans what then...

The Free Speech Coalition is the trade association for the adult entertainment industry... our responsibilities are threefold: One, to be the watchdog for the adult entertainment industry guarding against unconstitutional and oppressive government intervention; Two, to be a voice for the industry... and finally to provide business resources for our members

No mention of relaxed Doms from Boston in there, sorry.

Quite true! This is one of the reasons why they really don't intrigue me that much. That and the few times I've wandered into chat rooms it's been an a "A/S/L" greeting 9 times out of 10.

But imagine if they did... The KKK, particular groups whose activities I'm not allowed to mention here, the Westboro Baptist church, adult entertainers and kinksters could all be united under the same banner!

That would be one hell of a parade.

Thank you. I did the stitching myself, but bought the rubber chicken as a complete piece.

Rubber chickens truly do complete any outfit. I really to acquire one before my next dressy event. Perhaps turn it into a stylish handbag...

I thank you for the warning. Should this event ever come to pass, I shall watch safely from the TV. I shall, however, create a drinking game that will likely result in my death from too much whiskey.

It will be worth it.

The regular chatrooms are not on this site, per se; the site is merely a gateway.

To clarify, the IRC chatrooms are at chat.collarme.com (a subdomain of collarme.com).

You still don't get it.  Free speech does not mean you get to say whatever you like wherever you like.  Whoever creates an IRC channel can run it however they like.  If you don't like the way they are running it, start your own.

How much more simple can that be?
