RelaxedBostonDom -> Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:01:45 PM)

I am curious as a new member, that why someone named Tasha, is allowed to boot people from chat for no reason what so ever. I wasn't talking to her, or even said anything generalized. I merely answered a primary number question...even forgot 2 numbers... she repeatidly booted me. The room spoke up, said let it just drop, I agreed and still she booted me yet again. Am curious how this is free speech?

Welcome to collarme!

Free speech is guaranteed such that the government may not infringe.  It in no way impinges on the rights of private parties, such as this website, to restrict speech if they believe that it is in their interests to do so.

Just to let you know, you have violated TOS by specifically naming a person here.

There is no way to know what the reason was for booting you based on the scant info you have provided.  I suggest that you read the rules for the chat rooms and make sure you abide by them.

CalifChick -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:27:01 PM)

The regular chatrooms are not on this site, per se; the site is merely a gateway. You can get to them directly thru mirc, if I understand what VideoAdminAlpha said the last time someone asked. The videochatrooms are a different story.

If she has mod powers she can do what she likes. When you make your own website you have the freedom to do the same thing.

RelaxedBostonDom -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:33:08 PM)

Ahhhh I see... well reading the room rules it didnt say talking with people was against the rules. Oh well, seems to be  one of those deal where it is what it is.. Tasha isnt her full name, but if she read it she would know whom I was referring to. Point in case, the site offers the chat as part of it's venue, therefor , and you might want to research this. If you state freedom of speech, it is enforceable.
Be that as it may, a pitiful excuse for a mod won't stop me from enjoying some of the delightful people Ive met in a mere 2 days here. Thank you for your replies ;)

CalifChick -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:36:45 PM)

Perhaps you should do some googling and find out what "freedom of speech" really means. It doesn't mean what most people think it means.

And you might want to check out the definition of "gateway" as well. I don't think you'll find "we're responsible for anything that happens after you pass thru here".

TBD, I have never read the room rules but I would be surprised if talking with individuals is against them.  I suspect that you said something that violated them - maybe you said something inappropriate to an owned sub?  I got kicked out of a chatroom for that once when I was new.

Calling someone a pitiful excuse for a mod due to what I suspect is a violation of TOS will not help your situation.

As I posted above, Freedom of Speech refers to the government's lack of power to restrict speech, not private parties' power to do so.

CerVeza -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:41:56 PM)

I stopped going to those chat rooms. The room nazi's or room ops or (and this is hilarious) room OWNERS are mostly full of crap and full of themselves. These are people who think running these rooms is the highlight of their lives. many very objectionable ones... that guy simon in one room.. what does he call himself? Butt Boy? something like that. He's one of the worst.

anniezz338 -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:43:19 PM)

Not sure where breaking the rules has anything to do with freedom of speech. Seems to be plenty of free speech around here to me...lol

Free advice... this is the mod's sandbox. They aren't paid. They give up their own personal time to deal with abusive twits, put out fires, and perform a largely thankless job so that this free site can run effectively. The mods are, actually, quite awesome here. I've had several encounters with them over the years and even when they were scolding me our exchange was pleasant.

If you are displeased with the customer service, you can always ask for a refund and take your business elsewhere.

DarkSteven -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:44:58 PM)

CerVeza, please accept my apologies because I obviously did not post clearly enough that naming names in these posts violates TOS, for you to get it.

LadyPact -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:47:44 PM)

In My opinion, the naming of the individual isn't called for.  Granted, you shortened the name.  Still, that makes it more than easy enough to figure out who the person is by doing a simple search.  Not exactly fair since the person isn't on this board to tell her side of the story.

Over the years, folks have started up threads to complain here about what happens in the chat rooms.  To date, I haven't seen any time when the person who was booted be completely innocent.  Either they are disruptive, trying to get people to watch them whack off, or some other silly thing that was the core reason for them being kicked out.  Same thing as when their mail privilege gets taken away or they end up on moderated status over here.

Now, I won't say anything regarding innocence or guilt in your case, but the "Freedom of Speech" thing really doesn't fit for this kind of area.  Any use of this site (personals, chatrooms, message boards) isn't a right.  It's a privilege.  You're a guest here, just like I'm a guest, and so is everyone else.  When I invite someone into My home, I expect them to live by My rules, or I show them the door.  Same thing.

I'm pretty sure that the mods only do that to Teabagger morons.

RelaxedBostonDom -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 7:54:18 PM)

Simply answered a prime numbers question, if that offened someone...to bad. The person who asked it I was/am an aquaintence with. He took no offense and was , by his following statement suprised that I was booted as well. So assuming makes one what?
To the freedom of speech insertion aka comment. It was in hopes to get a server admin's attention. I live in the USA where freedom of speech is now a fable of ages gone past, however this doesnt mean that when asked a question and merely answering with no words other then the direct answer that this can be misconstruded in any form or fashion other then..and how shall I put this... the room nazi being full of him/herself...as another poster put it, seems to be the best description.

My post was to merely get ideas to how to rectify this, accusing or assuming I did wrong or affended someone is a sad statement on the purpose of the site. So as I posted earlier, and will now repeat once more, thank you for your input...I as one other posted in here..will not bother with such rooms again as they appear to be run by ....I was going to say people, but that would be giving credit for intelligence and morals... I'll leave it as ran by those that own/run them and will inform any and all that join , of what to expect when they say hi and or answer a question in these chat rooms. Thanks for turning a sour experience into a worse one :)

So contact them directly. The forum mods and the chat mods are different. It's like trying to find your local House Rep among the Senators.

You don't seem to understand this concept...

Your freedom of speech right does not mean you can say whatever you want on here. The government does not control this site. This site is not run by the government. Your freedom of speech means you can make your own site with your own rules. But while you are on someone else's, you have to respect theirs.

So either respect their site or make your own. It's very simple.

Given that you don't understand how freedom of speech works and are comparing chat room mods to a group of people who slaughtered 6+ million men, women, and children I really don't think you have room to talk in terms of intelligence and/or education.

littlewonder -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 8:01:27 PM)

imo stay off of forums on any website and any chatrooms. You're not ready for them.

DarkSteven -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 8:02:07 PM)

To be honest, RBD, I'm not sure what kind of response you expected.  You gave very sketchy details, and we did our best to tell you what we think could have happened.  It sounds like someone asked you to name a bunch of prime numbers and you did so, and a mod arbitrarily booted both of you for a discussion about math - that CAN'T be right.

We have told you our best guess and also informed you that Freedom of Speech does not apply here and where it DOES apply.

Unless you expected us to go over to the chatrooms with pitchforks and torches and overthrow the mods there, I don't see how you could have expected different answers than you got.

Lockit -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 8:02:47 PM)

Oh my, you don't seem so relaxed now... I could suggest something, but I doubt you would like that any better.

Something to think about. There are two sides to every story and typically around here, those telling the story, tend to have an agenda and aren't always telling the whole story. So... for what it's worth... if you want a better reception... try not outing someone in the process of your bitch. You might find you get a tiny bit more sympathy, but don't hold me to that, it isn't a promise.

And if all it takes to get you so upset, you might not go to chats, message boards, or might want to change your nick. You know, false advertising and all.. another constitutional right, I am sure.

RelaxedBostonDom -> RE: Just curious about Freedom Of Speech On this site (12/17/2010 8:03:02 PM)

Heres a concept for you...as I already stated, contacted the mods and admin...also

Collarchat.com is a member of the Free Speech Coalitionmeans what then...anything but?

As far as respecting their site...thats the whole point, to get clarification...or should I say was...I mean learn to READ maybe?
