Why would they need de-icer?

Not to worry- I am sure the director or the airport will get a promotion and a raise- and more funding.

This is what?  The 3rd snow storm in the UK this month?   and the weather is un-expected?

HA!  Talk about spin!  This would never happen in Chicago.

Oh dear, they should have build a new airport this month? And Chicago ALWAYS gets snow in the winter, London doesn't...

Btw on the phone with a friend in Los Angeles, his niece is held up in London because of the canceled flights for the past days, I asked him if she mentioned something about the heating being switched off, apparently not, she just mentioned that the airline put her up in the Crowne Plaza which is a damned nice hotel....

I know your are eager to scuttle away from your earlier comments, sourced from Prison Planet (only a handful of astronauts have ever escaped) but that is no way to hold a conversation.

You're not familiar with his "debating" technique then?

1. Spout crap.
2. Someone calls bullshit.
3. He points and says "look over there!", then legs it. Or introduces yet more crap.

It's a gift. Sort of. In a "the gift that keeps on giving, but you so wish it wouldn't" type-way.

I slipped yesterday and sprained and fractured my ankle, surely I can tie this in somehow to Heathrow being at fault... It must be their fault somehow, seriously, must blame Heathrow, must blame Heathrow...

Somebody should have been prepared for unforseen snowfall and ice, and nobody sent somebody to run in front of me with a hair dryer to melt all the snow and the ice away....

Kind of funny if you skip to the comments on this.   If this is acceptable-- then WOW!   Just wow!

Sounds like a major cluster, but no indication the heat was turned off.

For the benefit of the Britishers here, a "right cluster".  [:)]

Comical the Brits cant deal with 5 inches of snow.

How well would LA deal with 5 inches of snow, Las Vegas with a flood...

Comical that you can't understand that the world is a big place with different climates and yeah, lately there has been a massive climate change... Dohhhh

Shame you can't post the truth.

We all have our crosses to bear. Mine's a little snow. Yours is being fucked in the head.

Difference is, soon the snow will melt.

Would you like to borrow a pair of crutches? I have the feeling they also make good sticks for hammering a point home, unfortunately on the ground with the snow and ice now, they're more of a risk than a help, so maybe they could be used for a better purpose...

haha-  UK just like LA- Vegas.

NOT.

Oh sorry, I credited you with enough brain cells to understand comparisons...

Let me try to explain this to you in a way you can understand:

London - City in England - London usually no snow - snow = exception.

I really can't make it much more simple...

If the people want in-efficiency then I guess that is meant to be.

The airport sound terribly inefficient right now.   Apparently it is no big deal.

Another asset from the best and the brightest I suppose.

Nothing like an airport hassle.     But is snowed- so no need to improve the standards- procedures.. cause it snowed.

If the people fly when it snows - then this is the be expected- and embraced.   It is business as usual.

If the people want-it- then so be it.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Heathrow Responds To Big Freeze By Freezing Passengers Heathrow responded to Britain’s big free (12/19/2010 3:50:06 PM)

For those of us who are a few fries short of a happy meal:

It hardly ever snows in the UK and especially London, it would be damned inefficient to tear the whole airport up (that btw has been around for quite a while) for the off chance that there MIGHT be snow.

What's your point? The story that the heating was switched off was a hoax, so what now?

London had to cancel flights, well so had Frankfurt, Brussels and Amsterdam, the weather is a security risk so I guess you rather let them fly and come down (and that as a crash and not a landing)...

Munich is used to a lot of snow and even they canceled flights.

Do your research

for me it's at least the 3rd regular winter now in the uk...so how many years will it take then that they learn to deal with it?!

Yeah right. Like that's going to happen. If it isn’t a flakier publication than the National Enquirer, he’s not interested.

It's mildly annoying but it happens everywhere, even Germany, Austria and Switzerland who are used to dealing with snow have delays and problems, in the UK there is less snow and last year most people told me that it was the most snow they've seen since they were kids. For me it was just mildly snowy, not a big deal and it didn't stay long, but then I realized most people here don't have winter tires - and seriously, for what? 3 to 5 days a year a set of winter tires?

pahunkboy -> RE: Heathrow Responds To Big Freeze By Freezing Passengers Heathrow responded to Britain’s big free (12/19/2010 4:00:20 PM)

...most PPL in PA do not bother with snow tires.   They treat the roads here.  Albeit we do have our inefficiencies too.

A few years back we got 30 inches of snow every few days...

"Regular" has to be "severe" for a period of greater than about 2 months to make it cost-effective to do anything more about it. This isn't prolonged bad weather, it's the odd snowfall here and there.

If you're happy to pay another 5p in the pound tax then of course they can make it easy to deal with, like Scandinavia.

Thing is, I can't see people voting for that, can you?

But, as I said earlier in this thread, the government have asked their Senior Scientific Advisor (what a great job title) to look into it. I'm betting he'll report back that it's a total waste of money to spend money for a 2-4 week period, once per every other year, at best.
