Apparently my preference for our UK policy of strict gun control over the USA's lack of that is all the evidence you need.

Yes, that must be it. Hold that thought. It will comfort you.

I don't need comforting on it, Kirata.  But please do continue to see me as looking down on you, if that helps to keep you happy and chirpy with the world.

And, of course, if the Home Office says the figures are misleading then that certainly must be so, for where in the world could one find a more disinterested source? The question might be asked, however, misleading in which way?

for example the recording of violent crime in other countries may not include behaviour that we would categorise as violent crime

Heh... yes, or for example the reverse: "Police forces recorded offences of grievous bodily harm in lower category."

You do bother to read things before you pop off, don't you? Yes, certainly you do.

K.

Yes I do, Kirata.  My reading comprehension is usually passable enough.

You do bother to check on a poster's position on a given subject before a) invented what it is for him and b) attacking the position you've invented - don't you?

Do you believe that my position is that the UK is more law-abiding because we don't have widespread use of guns here?  What is it, actually, that you believe my position to be?

Rule -> RE: GUNS (1/2/2011 9:14:52 AM)

Deleted, as the problem had already been addressed.

No PFH, you misunderstand. Our way is not quite that of civilized beings. We are a fearful, warmongering race. T^

etc, etc, etc.

Oh FFS, Termy.  I prefer the UK's strict control of gun ownership to the USA's lack of strict control.  The over-fondness of the aesthetics of guns - their glamorousness and sexiness - is something that I find, personally, repugnant.  It's a turn-off for me.  Those are the only two points I've made on this thread, and those with few words.  I have never said anything about the USA being a fearful, warmongering race.  I have never dissed the USA, on any thread, ever, in relation to its support for the UK when we've been under attack.  Just calm the hell down, remember that you're talking to me, not some generic Brit opinion you've come across here or, worse, conjured up in your own head.

yeah Gramps went to help em out in WW2.

Termyn8or -> RE: GUNS (1/2/2011 9:29:40 AM)

No matter what, I can't understand people giving up their last vestige of personal protection. That rant was more about the fact that alot of people in the world are glad we got guns when we are saving their ass. And that is true.

You want us to have guns when you are in trouble, but then once we whack the assholes you want us to just turn them in and become civilised aagain ? Try that shit sometime. Oh wait, you CAN'T. Sorry for you.

Dispute.

pahunkboy -> RE: GUNS (1/2/2011 9:39:37 AM)

Did we need guns in 1776?

Only if we seen the white of the eyes.

Well, if it was a rant addressed to a 'lot of people' I'd prefer it if you'd address it to those people rather than to me.  I haven't cast all Americans in one way or another - I'd appreciate your returning the favour.

I don't support the widespread ownership of guns here in the UK.  That, however, has nothing to do with my opinions on having a well-armed military.  Jeez, running those two arguments together is a short route to a migraine!

Once again, please stop projecting that view of Americans being 'uncivilised' onto me.  That isn't my view; it's just a view you think others (might) have of you and/or other Americans.  It's not for me to defend any point regarding it.

The kind of gun control you mentioned happened in a big way in the UK shortly after World War 1.  I appreciate that the same thing can't be done nearly so easily in the USA even if people were to want it.

What actually is a 'tacklesmooch'?

GreedyTop -> RE: GUNS (1/2/2011 9:55:51 AM)

There is no way I know of to sufficiently describe it other than DOING it..

but word wise:

imagine stanfing in a spot.. someone who adores you sees ya.. they run at full speed towards you and jumps on you while giving you a big kiss...

close, but not EXACT description....

PeonForHer -> RE: GUNS (1/2/2011 10:06:27 AM)

Oh . . . great!  [:D]

I thought it might involve something like a rugby tackle.  Though, I don't remember much snogging going on when I was playing rugby at school.

GreedyTop -> RE: GUNS (1/2/2011 10:08:53 AM)

well, ya never played rugby with me ;)

Because when seconds matter the cops are minutes away. A lot of people have no clue that our police officers are under no obligation to put their life on the line to save ours.

Stricter gun laws do no stop violent crime as criminals do not abide by the laws. Only law abiding citizens abide by the laws. Gun free zones create the perfect environment for criminals to work because there is no one there to stop them.

I have obtained my GWL and I carry my sidearm where ever it is legal to do so. Sometimes in my purse, sometimes on my hip openly. Depends on what I am wearing that day. My husband also carries. We know that in the event that something should happen, we are prepared to protect ourselves, each other, our family and other citizens.

As a GWL holder I have:
Passed a background check and have my finger prints on file with the authorities
Have no felony convictions
Have never been convicted of domestic violence
Have no history of mental illness

Amazing!

In two of your first four posts you have managed to include almost every gun cliche imaginable.

Congratulations.

I'll have to check but I think the NRA gives out a prize for things like this (I believe it's a shiny new gun).

pahunkboy -> RE: GUNS (1/2/2011 10:25:53 AM)

NRA?

Pulease!   They are stooges for the NWO.

You want Gun Owners of America,   NOT the NRA!

Right.  My fault - I should have appended a smiley.

But, but . . . is your citing this as 'proof' of my anti-USA snobbery actually a trick?  I'm not going to get into a debate about Brits' use of irony versus Americans' bafflement with it - so forget it. [;)]
