Want to see what happened in one of those cases?

Roger West, an assistant US attorney in the central district of California, represented the government in a lawsuit brought by Taitz on behalf of perennial presidential candidate Alan Keyes, asking the court to require that Obama prove he is a natural-born citizen. The case has dragged on for more than a year, mostly because Taitz, a graduate of an online, unaccredited law school, failed to serve the defendants. Judge David O. Carter dismissed the suit in October for a host of reasons, but Taitz has appealed. Yet West says that far from bleeding his office, Taitz and her co-counsel Gary Kreep have assembled such a weak case that he hasn't had to spend much time on it. "I filed one motion that didn't take too long, we've had two hearings and that's it," he says. "It's not like we've devoted some sort of task force to this."

Army Major Rebecca Ausprung handled two of the birther cases against the Department of the Army that disputed Obama's authority as commander in chief to order soldiers to war. Ausprung says she spent a few hours drafting motions and doing research, and she did have to make three short trips to Georgia from Arlington, Virginia. She prevailed in both cases. "The monetary cost to the government in defending these two cases was extremely minimal," she says.

Or consider a case filed by one of the most prolific birther litigants, Philip J. Berg, that went all the way up to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. In November the court dismissed the appeal and ordered Berg to pay the legal costs for the defendants, which included the Federal Election Commission. Here was the government's big chance to recoup its millions. But when the FEC submitted its bill, the grand total came to $20.40. This doesn't include the cost of the time government lawyers spent writing briefs and appearing in court. Yet it's clear that as much of a nuisance as these suits are for the government, that's all they are: a nuisance.

In fact, the plaintiffs may be spending far more time and money on these cases than Obama or the government is, in part because of their failure to abide by basic court procedures. In one of the Georgia cases Ausprung handled, a federal judge sanctioned Taitz in October for $20,000 for, among other things, pursuing a case long after a judge had dismissed it and her own client had discharged her. Taitz has refused to pay the fine.

So far, judges have been remarkably tolerant of the birthers' shenanigans—despite being handed abundant opportunities to throw their petitions out of court. In one case, Taitz allegedly encouraged supporters to contact the judge by phone and mail to lobby for her cause—a glaring ethics violation that he chose to ignore. Another of her cases only went forward because the federal judge basically begged the defendants to let Taitz serve them—the first step in any lawsuit, but one that Taitz had neglected to take for about seven months. The judges' written opinions suggest that by giving the birthers' cases a full airing, they hope to put some of the most outrageous allegations to rest.

Now, please own up to the fact that your source for the costs of the birther nonsense is WND.

Personal attack? Where's the personal attack? You don't know what the fuck you're talking about, and that's just a pure fact. It doesn't matter how many times people prove you don't know what you're talking about, or how many times people challenge you to back up your bullshit and you just run away and pretend you didn't see them post - you just keep spouting the same bullshit over and over again, like some crazed parrot who was raised in a pet shop where the radio played Rush Limbaugh 24 hours a day.

All I'm doing is pointing out that you have no clue what you're talking about. That's not a personal attack, that's just an observation. A personal attack would be if I, uh... called you a moron. Which (unlike you) I have not done.

truckinslave -> RE: FLASHBACK: Gore Reports Snow and Ice Across World Vanishing Quickly... (12/30/2010 9:40:03 PM)

I tried- briefly- to source this but only got as far back as- seriously- Mother Jones.

The common sense thing, tg. $20.40. Which even the ranting author of this drivel admits doesn't include the bill for the attorneys (were there also private firms involved? I'd make book on it). Was there also travel expense? Was there also filing expense? What was $20.40? My guess is: postage. FEC postage, at that.

The one thing clear to anyone who has ever hired an attorney is that the author is being deliberately deceptive.

If you take this seriously, that the same government that can spend hindreds of dollars each for hammers and toilet seats can also fight and win federal cases up to the appellate level for $20.40......

No, I have more respect for you than that. You don't believe it either, when you think about it.

I blame George Bush again!!!Its all his fault!!!

tazzygirl -> RE: FLASHBACK: Gore Reports Snow and Ice Across World Vanishing Quickly... (12/30/2010 10:25:21 PM)

You can make book on anything you wish... doesnt make it true. With all these birther cases, can you honestly believe there is so much new information that lawyers continuously research and spend hundreds of hours on this nonsence. There is only su much information to be gathered... no doubt its reused from case to case.

in the Berg case, the DNC sent lawyers, so did the FEC. Berg was ordered to pay court costs.

In November the court dismissed the appeal and ordered Berg to pay the legal costs for the defendants, which included the Federal Election Commission.

Berg filed this appeal. The appeal was dismissed. There were no costs associated with the appeal, because Berg's case was denied.

Lets suppose someone thinks this is a problem.

I don't understand why they dont just send money in - to fix it.    maybe take up a donation.

Because dear boy they have their greedy eyes on the U.S. Taxpayers' money.

Somebody has to be "out there", stirring the pot of misdirections, and getting obscenely rich doing it.

I've asked several times on this thread and so far no one has been able to tell me how he is "getting obscenely rich doing it".

Care to educate me?

Rule, last I heard Gore gets $100,000 per speech/appearance. You stay on the road for 90 days doing that and you're talking about a sizable sum! And on some days you could make two events. Oh, and the book deals and t.v. appearances.
He's probably made a lot more than $100M in the last three or four years.

.,..I am tired of the birth certificate issue.   Obama is on his way out- close the barn door after the horse escapes.    We are just weeks from the 2012 election debates.

All O'dumbo has to do is release the originals. And I mean birth certificate and academic records. I can do that for myself. Can you? But he can't? Hey, I don't know WHERE he was born. Maybe Hawaii, maybe Kenya, who knows? But hey we got all that hope and change goin' around, so it's all good right?

Actually we're lecturing you on what kind of car you drive because we'd prefer that NYC, Boston, Miami, Savannah, Charleston, New Orleans, Corpus Christi, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seatle were not underwater sometime this century.

You are the perfect example of what I (and dear ol' dearly departed George) am talking about. So you'd prefer that ocean levels don't rise? Big boo hoo fucking deal. I'd prefer that too. I'd also prefer that tornados never happen, that cheese cake wasn't fattening, that certain brands of body wash really did make me irresistable to women, and that no child ever went hungry. It is easy to prefer anything (with the added bonus that it flatters our egos - look at me, I'm a nice person, I care!) Reality, however, doesn't give a rats ass what we prefer. Tornados will still happen, chesse cake is still fattening, body wash is nothing more than over priced soap and somewhere right now a child is starving to death. All that, and the ocean levels are either rising or falling right now. They have been rising and falling ever since there were oceans and driving a bunch of crappy hybrids is not going to change that one bit. If (or rather when) the coasts get flooded then people are just going to have to do what they always do when land they've been living on ends up under water - MOVE! When the water recedes again after an age or two, people (if we havent gone extinct by then) can move back.

Beats the hell outta me. I don’t pretend to know how such a complex and dynamic system as the environment/climate will act. For every factor we (humanity) think we know when we make our little computer models of the climate, there are probably a hundred, if not a thousand, we don’t know. One of the things that irks me the most about the enviro-nazi crowd (and humanity in general) is the utter lack of humility. By humility I mean an awareness, and acknowledgement, of the limitations of our knowledge (both as a species, and as individuals). I do know this, however: If the ocean levels rise enough to flood coastal cities, driving hybrids will not stop it. Cap and Trade will not stop it. No legislation foisted upon us by a bunch of hand ringing, self important, tofu eaters is going to stop it.

truckinslave -> RE: FLASHBACK: Gore Reports Snow and Ice Across World Vanishing Quickly... (12/31/2010 7:13:40 AM)

WND is probably the site that got me interested in the controversy. But I did a lot of research, and into areas WND just doesn't seem to cover.
At least the really uninformed are now having a hard time still claiming that the BC has been posted online, what with the incoming Gov of Hawaii saying that he wants to find a legal way to release it.

How I would love to know why 0bama0 has fought so hard to keep it locked up.

What law makes it your right to see either of those about any person other than yourself?

You mean with Ambercrombie saying the following...

"This has to do with the people in Hawaii who love him, people who loved his mom and dad," Abercrombie told the news station over the weekend. "This has to do with the respect of the office that the president is entitled to."

http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/48257/

Or this...

Mr. Abercrombie, 72, said that although he did not see the elder Obamas at the hospital with their newborn son, he did remember the couple bringing the baby to social events. He says the critics who suggest that Mr. Obama’s mother slipped off to Kenya to give birth are engaging in a “demonological fantasy.” And he is angry about legislation in several states that would require presidential candidates to document that they were born in this country. A similar bill died in Congress last year.

“My thought was, ‘Wait a minute, why didn’t you ask me, my friends in the national Congress, the House of Representatives?’ ” he said. “They know me, they know that I was here, but they didn’t even bother to have the courtesy to do that, which is disappointing to me, because it is very difficult for me not to conclude that bills like that are meant as a coded message that he is not really American. My thought is, rather than get into some kind of argument or play into that mentality, why not just simply try to authenticate this and let the facts speak for themselves?”

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/25/us/25hawaii.html

Or this...

"What bothers me is that some people who should know better are trying to use this for political reasons," he said. "Maybe I'm the only one in the country that could look you right in the eye right now and tell you, 'I was here when that baby was born,' " he added

Oh and lets not forget this....

Any action by Abercrombie would not be his first response to the "birther" controversy. Last year, he sponsored a congressional resolution honoring the 50th anniversary of Hawaiian statehood. It included language stating, "Whereas the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii."

It passed unanimously.

if AGW is a scam what is preventing the atmosphere from retaining more heat as the physics indicates it should?

Heat an atmosphere and it will expand, not so? An atmosphere with a larger volume will radiate more heat into space, not so? Increased evaporation will cause more cloud cover and this larger cloud cover will reflect more sunlight into space, not so? More CO2 in the atmosphere will cause more green things to grow, taking more CO2 out of the atmosphere, not so? (Mind that I am not admitting that the CO2 causes global warming.) When the temperature increases, the frequency of white daisies will increase, according to the Gaia hypothesis, not so?

Gravity limits the height of the atmosphere not the temperature of the atmosphere.

Also keep in mind that atmospheric pressure, and therefore density, does change by temperature but that the differences in temperature do not correlate to a linear increase in pressure.
