Serve with Pinot Gregio.

If this doesnt impress her...

What impresses me, Mister Chef, is that you copied that recipe right down to the <ul> and <ol> formatting from allrecipes.com.

The only thing you added was the "Pinot Gregio".

I am going to try and make Chateaubriand. Only problem is I have no idea how its supposed to taste. I am not even going to try to make French pastries.

Hey, if it tastes good then what else really matters

Recipe books are great, but not publishing someone else's recipe as your own, and most people I know who cook (at least those who enjoy it) inevitably "personalize" recipes a bit.

I edited out the parenthetical comment (which you caught) in order to double-check myself. But the few references I could find had a picture of the bottle with the correct spelling on the label, and Google Translate can't even detect the language.

Methinks I smell a small rodent.

i don't think i've ever had a man cook for me. Ever. How sad is that?

i'd say, if he at least makes the effort then that's a big plus in my book. Even if it's inedible.

DS, I am not reading this monster you spawned, but you my buddy kinda so I tell you this.

If you're already good, this will get them to jump in the bed faster than a flash flood.

Ground fennel, and if you have the finesse, just a bit of ground anise.

Yes my dude, that is the secret, but use it sparingly, it kills the tomato flavor if you put in too much.

Well, it is always refreshing to find out virtues you're not used to in other people. However, I have to stop and say that I seriously, honestly, definitely believe that spaghetti is the most romantic and delicious thing you could have cooked for her. It is delicious, and it speaks wonders of a man.
Since I like to cook and often enjoy doing it for my family, I don't usually feel impressed by a man who can cook, unless of course, he does it better than me. Still, I like someone who can survive by himself. I'd say, if he scrambles eggs, it's done.

Cocktails are another thing...

Well, it would take more than spaghetti and meatballs to impress me that he was a great cook, but the fact that he was willing to cook for me would make me smile. When I moved in with my ex, she didn't own a stove and would not have known what to do with it if she had. Over the years she has picked up some cooking skills and can at least feed her self if she has to. That's pretty much all I ask from a partner although having one who can cook well would definitely be a bonus.

My guess in the OP is that she was impressed with the fact that you went to the trouble of cooking instead of going the easy route with a restaurant. I know I would have been.

Annnnnnd it's pinot grigio. . Nice catch Kirata.

To the sexy OP, I am really a very good cook, I am one of those exotic class taking farmers market addicted organic only foodie types and I cook for him 7 days a week, so for me, a reservation at one of my favorite restaurants is preferred to him cooking for me, since I also do all of the cleanup after, so being catered to is a big plus for me. If a man wants to cook for me something decadent like a wonderful brunch with mimosas is nice though on a late Sunday morning. Then sex, before and after. .

Just attempting anything is impressive.  I know it sounds sexist, but many men do not cook.  Any effort is applauded!

Thanks for the pancake tips.  I'm very strange, as I'd rather have Mine without syrup.  (This is the part where people look at Me like I'm nuts.)  The strawberries would be a hit, as well as the blueberries.  Raspberries would be a thought, too.

I'm the same way. I will have REAL syrup on occasion, but generally, I love just fruit or jam with my pancakes. Oooo.. LP - I see brunch in our future, yes indeed, yes indeed!

As far as how much does it take to impress me? Wellllll, quite a bit actually. I don't need fancy schmancy although I wouldn't say no to it. What's important to me is that he ENJOYS the cooking process. If he does, then he is bringing light and love into my world in a very tangible way.

But if he can pick a guitar, nibble my ear, and talk to me while I cook, he's batting a thousand.
(Not necessarily at the same time or in that order).

*ETA: I hate having spaghetti or noodles of any kind around people I want to impress. I always end up with splotches on my blouse. Gnocchi on the other hand...

best,
sunshine

Ladies, how much man-cooking would it take to impress you?

A lot, actually.  Both my brothers are good cooks and do most of the cooking for their families.  My ex husband was a very good cook.  I went out with a guy for a few months, a couple years ago, and he was a pretty good cook, too.

I love to cook, though, and I'm kind of particular about cooking, so a man would have to make an incredible dinner from scratch for me to really be impressed.  Daddy is more of a BBQ'er (and an incredible one at that, though) but does join me in the kitchen to cook with me sometimes.

I'm more impressed if they do the dishes, LOL.
