DarkSteven -> Ladies, how much cooking does it take to impress you? (12/29/2010 9:41:58 PM)

I asked a woman over for dinner a couple of weeks ago.  I made spaghetti with turkey meatballs and a salad.

She was stunned.  She'd been married twenty years to a noncooking husband and her dinner invitations since the divorce were all for restaurants.  Almost forty years old and I was the first man to cook for her.

So she was impressed by spaghetti.  Ladies, how much man-cooking would it take to impress you?

Anything beyond grilled cheese sandwich is pretty impressive.

Pasta Carbonara:

Ingredients
1/2 pound bacon, cut into small pieces
    4 eggs, room temperature
1/4 cup heavy cream at room temperature
    1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    16 ounces dry fettuccine pasta
    1/4 cup butter, softened
    1/4 cup chopped parsley
    ground black pepper to taste
    2-3 chicken breasts
Directions

  1. Cook bacon until crisp. Drain on paper towels.
  2. Grill chicken until tender. Cut up and set aside.
  3. In medium bowl beat together eggs and cream just until blended. Stir in cheese and set aside.
  4. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and return to pan. Toss with butter until it is melted. Add bacon, chicken, and cheese mixture and toss gently until mixed.
Serve with Pinot Gregio.

If this doesnt impress her (hell, if this doesnt get you laid), I will turn in my chef's hat and live on a subsitence of microwave TV dinners and small rodents [8D]

Not sure if I've ever told you these stories, Steven.

MP tried to impress Me with cooking on two different occasions.  He went all out on the grill, doing some great steaks, potatoes, and corn.  The first time I spent the night, he made pancakes, which are My favorite.  When the courting was over, so was the cooking.

In clip's case, he won Me over with a freshly baked cheesecake.  I'm absolutely crazy for the fondue that he makes, and I adore the Belgium waffles.  That one is not allowed to stop cooking.

I don't have to be impressed with actual cooking.  A man who understands that it's good to take care of a woman by getting her a meal once in a while after a long day doesn't have to make it himself.  If you order Me a pizza or Chinese food, I'm just as content.  In that area, it's the thought behind it.

****  This is no way means that I do not appreciate good cooks.  I'm very easily won with food.

I am not the best cook in the world but I LOVE to cook. I blame Alton Brown for that one. Not only does it save on money it brings some personal satisfaction knowing I can take anything from the fridge and/or pantry and turning it into delectable EATS.

Good Eats! Food Network!

The only thing though is getting the kitchen back to perfection after someone else cooks. Gahh....

I myself, refuse to make anything that's isn't completed by adding milk or zapping in a microwave.
No guy has ever made food for me. :/

I'm very impressed if he is willing, and tries...  If he is willing, but a disaster in the kitchen, than I would be impressed by his ordering and bringing it home.
I have had men cook during courtship in vanilla, and others cook every time I was over in D/s.   It's definitely something I consider thoughtful, romantic, and sexy.    M

Like LP, I'm impressed someone who cared enough to do it.

Extra points for any decent effort made to plan and execute a balanced meal

More points if when I showed up for dinner, the kitchen didn't look as if a bomb had gone off. [:D]

LadyPact,  Here are some thoughts for you and other pancake lovers.

Take any relatively firm fruit and slice it very thin.  Then mix the pancake batter
just a little on the thin side.  First pour a pancake, then quickly place the slices
of the fruit into it, then cover the slices with more batter.  Then pour the next one.

You will end up with slightly thick pancakes which have a warm fruit center.

Some of my favorite combinations are:

Banana slices with ground up walnuts in the batter.
Apple slices with cinnamon in the batter
strawberries, blueberries, or raisins.
And my current favorite, pear slices.
Use any left over slices to garnish when serving.

In addition to being delicious you need less butter and no
syrup because the juice balances the dough.  Enjoy!
And if you come up with more combinations, please share.

Trail mix is allways a good call when camping(with some easy just add water pancake mix of course)

Thanks for the pancake tips.  I'm very strange, as I'd rather have Mine without syrup.  (This is the part where people look at Me like I'm nuts.)  The strawberries would be a hit, as well as the blueberries.  Raspberries would be a thought, too.

oh hell yeah.. waffles w/ PB and syrup.. HEAVEN!!

I've been very lucky in the choices of men over the years, at least as far as culinary skills go (even if nothing else..LOL).

I was engaged to a master chef for a while (until he got killed by a drunk driver), and every guy I've ever been seriously involved with has had mad kitchen skillz...

hmm.. common denominator.. perhaps I should reconsider dating guys with kitchen talent.. lol

I am going to try and make Chateaubriand. Only problem is I have no idea how its supposed to taste. I am not even going to try to make French pastries.
