cooking doesn't impress me, it's nice, but honesty, decency and someone who believes in many of the same things i do is much more impressive.

I'm with you, plus I like cooking and know I do it damned well, so unless he's exceptional, I will appreciate the effort but I prefer to do the cooking, he can lay the table, do the dishes, decant the wine but don't mess with my kitchen!

That too!  I limit Alpha to making breakfast, and only that because I can't function before having a cup of coffee.  Does that count as topping from the bottom?  I think it might, and he has been known to call me a "kitchen Dom".

Spaghetti will do it. A college friend turned into a lover after he cooked me exactly that. His sauce was made from a Lowrey's spice package mixed with Hunt's tomato sauce. The thought really does count.

Kitten loves having me cook for her, but the deity of your choice help us if we're both working in the kitchen at once! We're both very much culinary autocrats and don't cook in the same way at all, so we end up trying to get one another out of "my kitchen."

As a result, we don't cook together too often.

I cook, they clean and bake. I have frequently been won over by a perfectly timed cup of tea and a mango.

I try very hard not to be the Goddess of the kitchen. Too many memories of my female relatives dominating that space.
Food to me is romantic. I enjoy cooking but I especially enjoy sitting down each evening and eating with him. I also enjoy the fact that he can not only cook something wonderful but he can then romantically spoon feed me.
We are probably unusual but we never sit in front of the tv and eat and we hardly ever have our meals on our laps. Its always a special shared part of the day when candles are lit, soft music is played and in an unhurried way we can enjoy each others company.

I love to cook and so does Generic Dude. We take turns.

In my previous life, my exhusband also loved to cook. And even taught me some things.

I cannot say that cooking impresses me because I've come to expect it, to a degree. I made certain my son knows how to cook as well as my daughter. They both often call me with questions about something they are brewing up.

Maybe- but if I am going to cook a dinner for someone-  and they only  pick at half a salad- that is not too fun.

Yeah, and I'll keep my Chiles en Nogada to myself. Used to be the best-selling dish when I had my restaurant, but I haven't made them in years.

I do a really good Pad Thai, Paella a la Valencia, Pizza Margherita, Moros y Christianos, Sichuan Eggplant, Chicken Vindaloo, Fessanjoon, Alsace-style Choucroutte, Paprikash, and bunches of other stuff.

This, really. I don't get people who can't cook.

This thread has reminded me of one of my favourite kink moments ever-a friend getting out of bed to go cook for his other half and me, leaving us to cuddle, coming back in with two giant mugs of hot tea for us while the food simmered. I remember feeling so cared for. Not the skill that stuck in my memory, but the pride and pleasure in doing something nice for people he cared about.

(Although the skill was definitely a bonus-that was some *good* chilli [8D])

Reading this thread, I'm really amazed at how many men don't even know how to cook. What the heck do these guys eat? I moved out of my parents' house shortly after I turned 17, and thought I was in heaven because I could eat pizza, TV dinners, and pot pies every night. It took about 3 weeks before I'd had a lifetime's worth of that crap, and I motored straight over to my parents' house to raid my mother's recipe book. Haven't looked back since. I can't imagine how boring life would be if I didn't cook.

When I'm living with someone, I usually do all the cooking, because I'm better at it than most of the women I've been with. My last ex used to do a lot of the cooking because she liked the traditional dishes she grew up with in Russia and Germany, and I couldn't make them as well as she could. But overall, my cooking was still better than hers, so unless she had a hankering for borscht or sauerbraten or whatever, she mostly preferred to let me do the cooking.

I did date someone about 15 years ago who was a really good cook, and we would take turns trying to outcook each other. We'd attack each other every weekend with elaborate gourmet meals, her one Saturday night and me the next. She finally gave up when I clobbered her with lobster thermidor and baked alaska. After that, she pretty much let me do the cooking.

Alpha was eating basically nothing but PB&J, tuna sandwiches, and Chinese take-out before I moved in.

How would you know?   Why you would make that statement, I cannot figure, but besides that I was under the impression you date men.
Fat women often enjoy cooking their own fabulous dishes, but I'm missing that gene unfortunately.   I can cook a few things marvelously, but only desire to cook once or twice/year.    M
