Toppingfrmbottom -> Our time to part with Ginger is near. (1/2/2011 11:31:10 AM)

The vet says we could either put her on prednisone or have her put to sleep. She;s obviously suffering, the dr said she appears to be jondiced, which is a sign of the liver failing my dad says.
We're not gonna have any other choice in this, we put up a good fight, and we're at the end of the fight now. The SPCA will do it for 35 if we don't wanna be with her for the end, and if we do it's 135, you have to  have an appointment, and they only do it Sunday and Tuesday, and have no appointments availible this Tuesday.
Daddy doesn't wanna go in an see them put her to sleep, but I may wanna go hold her and comfort her one last time, and so might my parents, so I don't know what it's gonna be drop off an leave, or appointment.
Fortunatly I have a couple days to decide, my heart says go. but finances may dictate drop off.

I wanna thank you all who've been so supportive, from day one, when the suspected news came in, to clear through the worry and stress up to today.

I'm sorry that this time has come, but it is the most loving act we can provide for our little buddies who have given us years of nothing but love.

I have stayed with my cats when they are euthanized. It's very peaceful, but rips your heart out. I wouldn't change a thing and would always be there with them at the end. That's a personal choice. If you feel you need those moments to get you thru the pain, then by all means you go right ahead. And you cry thru it if you want to.

My thoughts are with you.

I sort of saw this coming but it's still sad. Sorry.

Oh TBF my heart goes out to you. It is such a difficult thing but I am so glad you are going to end her suffering. I've been through it with my babies over the years, as issues dictated. It is hard and I always cry. But no matter how painful it is, I've always known it was the right thing.

Sorry to hear that, but you will want to be with her, first of all you will give her comfort, I always get angry if people say "I can't stand to see it", and drop the animal off at the vet's (which I understand isn't the case with you), if you can somehow afford it, do go with her, it will give you peace of mind and it will make it so much easier for Ginger, if she's left alone there, do you think her last minutes should be anxious and scared because she's on her own?

Nope, I was planning in having her drugged before we took her, the moment we got the news it was terminal actually I asked to be able to pick up a tranq. I thought exactly that her last moments on earth shouldn't be aware that she's in a place that she hates. I sure wish it could be done at home with out stress of a person or place they dun really like poking them. Just have it be possible to wish her to die an have it happen. And no a mobile vets not affordable, I already checked it's any where between 400 to 800.

I ball after it's over. Or like now in the privacy of my room.

Possibly will try to comfort her then, but dogs are very focused on their owners and left alone they easily get stressed out, if you can hold them and they can snuggle up and fall peacefully asleep it's much better for them.

i don't doubt that at all. I stayed with my cockerspaniel when it came time. I have a few memmories I could of done with out, but mostly I have peace that he was loved and we went through everythiing together, even the very last.

Same here. You could try to hold on spend tons on chemosynthesis an pain pills an maybe hope to get another few months out of her , but that's not in their best interest, she's after all terminal. If I want nothing but the best for her, how could I do anything other than make it end, though it sure hurts an sure will be sad leaving with a dog an coming home with out one.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Two years ago this month, I put down my 14yo little buddy. And yes, I was there at the end. But in my almost unconsolable grief, I knew he had suffered enough and was at peace. I still dream about him.

Hugs to you

Anniez I still dream about my cockerspaniel too. It's been 3 years.

Ok, so good news about the euthinasia, the vet we took her to today will do it for 85 if we don't want the ashes back. 220 if we do. I am gonna go with the trade off of affording to be with her an no ashes, than to be able to afford it but not go with her.
