We can't honestly say that target graphics have a direct link to political assassinations no. The debate should be at a slightly higher level such as why do people, who can communicate with clarity, choose to use language in a blunt way that leads to misinterpretation?
Furthermore why isn't there much clarification of a statement when proxies put a different meaning to those statements? Sometimes letting people misinterpret you is convenient. Means you can up the hostility but not own such hostility. If someone was saying things on my behalf, people that barely knew me, you could be sure that I'd be doing all I could to make sure such misinterpretations or blatant misrepresentations didn't stand on the record.
