Yes I have run into writings by Andrea Dworkin. I lived in NYC for many years. I do not think that women should settle for just equality.

See, now this sentiment is one that I've encountered from both women and men -- and I simply don't understand it. Why should GENDER -- something that is completely outside of an individual's control and which is nothing more than a random act of fate -- determine an individual's capacity to be extraordinary? Should that determination not be based on that individuals ACTIONS (something that person has control over and makes conscious choice to do), rather than something that is simply a whim of the Universe?

If it is true that women should expect something more than equality as a result of their gender, then should those who say that MEN are naturally superior and should expect special treatment ALSO offering up a valid opinion? And if THEY are valid in their assumption that they should strive for exceptional treatment based on their GENDER, then shouldn't people be allowed to expect such treatment based on RACE or RELIGIOUS PREFERENCE or any other divisive characteristic -- maybe everyone with GREEN and HAZEL eyes are the TRUE SUPERIOR RACE and should demand special privilege.

Several people have said wise things here, and I think that it is important to keep in mind that feminism, in its origin and its intentions, is in as much violation of our fundamental human rights as any form of racism is.

I completely understand why a serious Domme does not want to be respected because of Her gender or Her possible association with the feminist movement, but because of Her personal qualifications.

For, me, from the sub side, it is exactly the same. There is NO WAY an "average female" by virtue of nothing but her gender, can solicit my submission and services... I am too darn valuable for that!!!!

I retain my rights to pick and choose the Mistress I see worthy of my services - and it is denitely not "an average female"... holy moly, I am not that desperate...

The real problem in this is that "reverse discrimination" is STILL discrimination! You cannot eliminate discrimation, for instance against blacks in the "job scene", by starting discriminating against whites! Although it might help attaining some artificially set quotas, it certainly does not eliminate discrimination; it uses discrimination - just the other way. Similarly, feminism might produce some desired balance in a male chauvinist society, but that balance is created on a foundation that is no better than what we had before - and are supposedly fighting! So, the result simply CANNOT be more sustainable. More imbalance creates more conflict - so we get NOWHERE with such an approach.

You cannot create peace by declaring war, no matter how much some politicians want us to believe in such BS. Some of us are indeed capable of learning from history - and, my goodness, that lesson has been repeated so many times that only idiots can "not get it".

We have to use some PRINCIPLES that can be generally acceptable as fundamental - for EVERYONE.

The UN Human Rights Declaration, as ratified by just about all the planet's countries, is not perfect - but it is the best start ever provided, even though most countries' governments piss on it, particularly those that are heavily controlled by religious traditions, like the USA which happily makes it illegal for mothers to nurse their babies in public or for parents to refuse letting their children's bodies be filled with dangerous chemicals called "drugs" and "vaccines"!

And it means, for us, that we must support those principles, if we want our own freedom to choose what is best for us.

We are a vulnerable bunch - because we want to be different from average people. We NEED our freedom rights more than most other groups in society. If we cannot comprehend what the true origin of that freedom must be, and resolve to fight for that, and not for more injustice on the basis of more wrong-doing by just moving the powers around and identifying new victims, then the public acceptance of us (if we can claim even having achieved that yet) will be very short-lived.

The M/s dynamics are very clearly NOT gender specific. If they were, then all Ds would be of the same gender and that's clearly not the case. And there really does not have to be a problem in that; just as we can easily (I hope) accept homosexuality as a right for anyone to choose to practice, if they want to, defining our own roles in a dynamic personal relationship and choosing our partner should not be put into prejudices about gender supremacy in general - and I personally don't believe it is the case either.

To OP's original question, then there are two ways of bring things back to the point of balance:

A. You can add an opposing force that will make the pendulum swing the other way - and out again on the other side! The problem here is Newton's first law - a body in motion will CONTINUE its motion, as long as no external forced influence it. This means that we cannot STAY at the balance point.

B. You can reduce the force that is behind the current motion. For the pendulum, this is done by adding resistance that will bring the action of gravity to a halt. Exposing the pendulum to FRICTION will eventually stop its motions completely.

I hope everybody understands that it is gravity that makes a pendulum continue swinging, once it is brought out of its resting stage by some external force.

I also hope that it is evident that the stable resting stage (with the pendulum no longer moving) represents a permanent equilibrium - and it is impossible to attain by using force to reverse the direction of the pendulum...

But, for a quick observer, who does not understand the difference between A and B, it might appear that A can bring the pendulum back to its resting position! That might be a correct observation, but it does not help us when that position is not stable and will not be assumed for any length of time - BECAUSE of the force we used to get to it!

For clarity, A = feminism, B= Human Rights.

So, the overall conclusion I can see in this is that the role of feminism in the BDSM movement might APPEAR to have contributed something desired, but it really hasn't done anything but making things even worse, by giving some people a false perception of its value in regards to creating balance. It does the exact opposite.
