Speaking of the violent rhetoric, and who has a corner on it.
Death threat against Tea Party organizer in Tucson

This also struck me as a good read
P.J. O'Rourke on the New York Times coverage of the attack

Im surprised O'Rourke didnt also discuss Krugman's ludicrous Times article.

TheHeretic -> RE: Tucson and the Media (1/17/2011 11:02:48 AM)

Krugman writes opinion, Wilbur. The front page is supposed to be for straight news, and once upon a time, the NYT set the standard for how that was done.

Rich, I suspect you really don't know what a corner is, or you don't have any memory skills.

Moonhead -> RE: Tucson and the Media (1/17/2011 11:06:11 AM)

O'Rourke's demoted to the Standard now?
How the once mighty and past it have fallen...

Yeah, I agree. Unfortunately because he's a ....oooh.... Princeton professor, his oped's carry the weight of news.

TheHeretic -> RE: Tucson and the Media (1/17/2011 11:30:41 AM)

And how many Google hits would you expect to find about this guy, 17 months after the fact, Ron?

"Corner" can refer to a lot of things, Ron. A better location to do business, or something you paint yourself into, are only a couple possibilities. As a matter of fact though, I do have a memory. I recall, just for example, how the media cautioned everyone not to jump to any conclusions when the traitor Hasan shouted "My God is cooler than yours!" when he grabbed the high ground and started murdering soldiers in Texas.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. teabaggers brought it on themselves now they are going to cry about it? lol

O'Rourke, yesterday. Not relevant in todays world. Nobody knows or pays attention to this hack.

You're a shining tribute to President Obama's message in Tucson, YngBlk. Shining, I say!

mnottertail -> RE: Tucson and the Media (1/17/2011 12:27:18 PM)

Which guy?  The threats in the town hall just lost out to whats googling now, I suppose they are probably page 99999999 by now with the attention span of the average american.

And it would be disingenuous to say that in your OP, you meant other than 'corner the market'.

Now, you see, it is just this type of attitude that may well eventually actually cause the bloodshed that you are incorrectly attempting to throw onto the "TEA partiers" (and others who do not completely buy into the leftist agenda).

Firm

Not every conservative is a tea PARTY member, DomYngBlk.  I know the media and certain progressives would love to paint us that way but it just isn't so.

Even your leader...the mighty Obama...declared at the Memorial that what had happened was NOT due to rhetoric.  So...is it that he can see that what was being stated was wrong....or is he wrong?  Is he lying?  Or is he talking out of both sides of his mouth?

Can you fix your quote, CD? I appreciate the sentiment, but I didn't say it.

mnottertail -> RE: Tucson and the Media (1/17/2011 12:48:52 PM)

LOL, I wish one could see more of the screen when they are clipping quotes, Rich.

Merc (remember Merc of Mercnbeth fame, wish he would pop back) used to attribute two kinds of quotes to me, those I wished I had said, and those I actually said, and truth be told, I wish I would have said the ones I didn't say more often than not than the ones I did say.

Ah, but such is life ..........

In regard to the first, I think that one of the victims of the shooting had a right to be angry.

Regarding the second, this has become the standard conservative defensive posture about this, so I have to ask why they feel the need to be defensive if their rhetoric really had no influence.

I also have to wonder why this crazy person who we are told could have went on a rampage against anyone happened to choose
a political event to do so.  He could have just wandered into the Safeway and had a wide range of targets.

mnottertail -> RE: Tucson and the Media (1/17/2011 1:04:14 PM)

Or a post office, or work,  moreso than a Safeway (which are not in all 50 states) which is what they did in the halcyon days of yore prior to the violent political rhetoric, and high unemployment.

DomKen -> RE: Tucson and the Media (1/17/2011 1:32:37 PM)

Of course there has been no right wing violence, except for Jim Adkisson, James Cumming, Richard Poplawski, Daniel Hayden, Joshua Cartwright, Scott Roder, Hal Turner, James von Brunn, Gilbert Ortiz, Joshua Bowman, John Brek, Warren Taylor, Mark Campano, Charles Dyer, Gregory Girard, Joseph Stack, Johnny Logan jr., Brody Whitaker, Jerry and Joseph Kane, Byron Williams, Patrick Sharp, Josiah Fornof, Richard Mcleod and James Patock.

Lucylastic -> RE: Tucson and the Media (1/17/2011 4:11:14 PM)

shit stirring little bastard arent you Rich.
This has been in the  news for days, yet not one person until you  decided to "rile up or dial up the rhetoric" on this board.  You that brings it up trying to make a point?
You speak with a fork tongue

Yeah that's a pack of dangerous killers all right. Like this guy
quote:

In March 2005, Western Michigan University police arrested Samuel Mesick and charged him with a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace after Mesick threw a cup of salad dressing on Pat Buchanan.

I'm shocked Pat survived the vicious unprovoked marinating.
