First, i never made that claim. Second, that was not the point of my posting. Third, if you want to debate the merits of the health care law, please, start a seperate thread. Im always willing.

I did say a few... not many... not most... not an abundant... but a few. In response to your saying...

Following the links is a real eye opener.

The link you provided also has a link to the following...

Health plans for high-risk patients attracting fewer, costing more than expected

The claim being only 8000 people had enrolled. Im not sure where those numbers came from. The article isnt clear which program they were referring too. Perhaps the national one. Here in PA, there is the PA Fair Care program, ran by the state.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/27/AR2010122702343.html

PA Fair Care is Pennsylvania’s health plan for uninsured adults with pre-existing conditions. This temporary plan offers transitional insurance coverage until the broader coverage provisions of federal health insurance reform come to fruition in January 2014.

Applications are currently being accepted for April 1, 2011 enrollment. Those interested in applying should do so, as space in the program may become limited.

Individuals who are eligible will have a monthly premium of $283, plus copays and coinsurance. Please choose one of the following topical links for more information.

http://www.pafaircare.com/

PA Fair Care Eligibility and Availability

Funding for PA Fair Care is based on monies received from the federal government.

Pennsylvania is expected to receive approximately $160 million to administer PA Fair Care. That means that approximately 3,500 individuals could be enrolled in the program in the first year. In the final year of the program, we expect to have approximately 5,600 individuals enrolled.

Acceptance into the program will be on a first come, first serve basis. So that means – once the available slots are full, a waiting list will be necessary. Six months after PA Fair Care coverage begins, the department, in conjunction with the federal government, will re-evaluate claim and administrative costs of the program to determine if additional individuals on the waiting list may be enrolled in the program. Thereafter enrollment offers will be made every 6 months to individuals on the waiting list if such funds are available.

http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/health_insurance/9189/pa_fair_care_eligibility/736045

A month after its launch, Pennsylvania's new high-risk insurance program has received 2,600 applications, meaning there still are plenty of slots available before the state Insurance Department hits its initial cap of 3,500 enrollees.

So far, 1,737 applicants have been judged eligible for PA Fair Care, the federally subsidized insurance program meant to provide health coverage for high-risk customers. To be eligible, an applicant must be without insurance for at least six months and must be unable to obtain coverage because of medical conditions.

My curiosity gets the best of me sometimes. So, according to the HHS, only 8000 people have signed up. According to the PA Fair Care, almost 1800 were in PA alone.

I find it doubtful that I am the only one questioning some numbers here.. and its not PA's numbers that I am questioning.

Cato84 -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 12:42:41 PM)

Couldn't find a list of all participants by state, but in that article in the Washington Post you followed the link to went on to say this.

"'Like the rest of the country, we thought we'd have pretty much a stampede. That obviously hasn't materialized,' said Michael Keough, executive director of North Carolina's plan. With nearly 700 participants, it is among the nation's largest...only one - Colorado's - is close to its forecast enrollment. Maryland, the only jurisdiction in the Washington area that has created a plan, has 97 participants, compared with 19,000 in an older state high-risk pool, according to Kent McKinney, who directs both. HHS's November report said that Virginia had 75 participants in the federal plan. The District had none."

An available list for all the states.

Sooner or later, cuck, you and yours are going to have to admit that you lost this one politically, and as each day passes, you lose a bit more popularly too.

Live in the past, or step up and help modify it--everyone agrees adjustment is needed, and there Repubs could play a role.

Or they could spend two years trying out 2012 soundbites.

Cato84 -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 1:06:27 PM)

Tazzy, what you linked there was a list of enrollees in state run high risk pools. I also took a gander at Pennsylvania and saw that it is one of the twenty some states that has no state funded high risk pool setup, which might help to explain why it has a higher than average number of people interested int he new federally funded plan.

Cato84 -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 1:09:20 PM)

Oops it does have one, looked at the wrong box on the chart. I guess that doesn't explain it.

tazzygirl -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 1:10:12 PM)

And yet there were, at the time of the reporting, 700+ people still waiting to be approved or denied.

There is also a 6 month waiting period between loss of insurance and eligibility of the program.

There is also the stipulation that you have to have a denial letter from an insurance company.

Cato84 -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 1:38:36 PM)

Well those are all important measures to take to reduce fraud and abuse. Any government assistance program should be means tested from here to Tuesday.

The original inclusion of that link was just to provide a case against these numbers you hear getting thrown about, saying that there is some insane amount of people out there that are excluded from health coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Like the 30 million the above poster tried to claim.

tazzygirl -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 1:41:39 PM)

Its also a good way to get screwed. Try getting a denial letter from an insurance company. Of course they wont deny most people... they will just charge astronomical amounts so you cant purchase it.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 1:44:21 PM)

Or they will refuse to cover anything relating to the pre-existing condition.

tazzygirl -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 1:46:39 PM)

True enough... and they can decide that most (lets not say all) complaints you go to the Dr could, potentially, be a result of the pre-existing condition and refuse to cover.

I ran a claims audit practice for a HEALTH CARE CONSULTANT.

I'm more interested in your past claims audit practice than who you worked for. How many people died as a result of you finding ways to deny their claims? What horrific crimes did they commit to end up on death row? Nobody is perfect and I've done a lot of things in my life I'm not proud of, but I've never been responsible for anyone's death.

Cato84 -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 2:42:31 PM)

https://www.pcip.gov/LearnMore.html#Eligibility

"If you live in a state that guarantees insurance coverage, the state may consider you to have been denied coverage if you were offered coverage at an unreasonable price or you have a medical condition. So, you need to check on how to establish eligibility in your state."

tazzygirl -> RE: 1,968 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare (1/22/2011 3:03:18 PM)

Different states may use different methods of determining whether you have a pre-existing condition and whether you have been denied insurance coverage. If you live in a state that guarantees insurance coverage, the state may consider you to have been denied coverage if you were offered coverage at an unreasonable price or you have a medical condition. So, you need to check on how to establish eligibility in your state.

https://www.pcip.gov/LearnMore.html#Eligibility

The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan may vary depending on what state you live in. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will run the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan in some states, and is contracting with a national insurance plan to administer benefits in those states. Other states have requested that they run the program themselves, and each of those states has the flexibility to design the program that best meets their state’s needs.

To qualify for coverage:

•You must be a citizen or national of the United States or residing in the United States legally.
•You must have been uninsured for at least the last six months before you apply.
•You must have a pre-existing condition or have been denied coverage because of your health condition.

http://www.healthcare.gov/law/provisions/preexisting/states/pa.html

It all depends on where you live.

Again, changing people's posts does not make you look any more intelligent. Now, run along and snuggle up to your rubber "denied" stamp.

Obviously you dont know what a claims audit is. Also you (and most others) dont realize that claims audits result in findings of overpayments and payments of non-covered services about 8 times more often than underpayments/incorrect denials.

Another one who doesnt know what a claims audit is.

And fixing your posts can only make you look more intelligent if someone didnt realize that it was fixed. You dont have a fucking clue about what you write about. Patients are blessed you arent a nurse any longer.
