I say chick flick....there were no explosions (okay, maybe when the ships boilers blew, but that was mostly steam), no car chases , no martial arts, and no jokes about loud bodily functions. I wanted to run up behind the old lady and push her overboard at the end.

Braveheart always makes me cry (Wm Wallace's sword flying through the air at the end). Definitely NOT a chick flick.

To the poster who mentioned the elder Rose - Gloria Stuart (Stewart?) was her name.

Also, I don't remember Billy Zane slapping the young Rose, but overturning the breakfast table.

~FR~

Never watched it. Have it here because a friend loaned it to me. Have no desire to watch it. It will be returned to said friend unopened.

You might want to give it a shot, Red. It's an amazing movie.

I'll take it under advisement. I think it's more to do with my not liking Leonardo that just puts me off the movie. I can't watch any of his films. I have tried several and have to shut it down about 15-20 minutes into it.

Well, I did like it, but any movie that makes you cry is a chick flick....regardless of what led up to the tears.

Brian's Song isn't a chick flick.

wow.....scary....I actually thought of the same movie when I wrote what I did....hence the part about the events leading up to the crying.  Brian's Song was about the friendship that grew between the guys involved....from what I remember anyway.  It's been like 35 years since I first saw it.  And yes, I cried then, too.

I know folks loved it but I just kept falling asleep every time I tried to watch it.

Too bad you can't jib-jab somebody's (that you have the hots for) face over Leo's face!!

Chick flick because it played on the emotions too much. Any historical event could be told in a way that is factual, smart, engaging, sympathetic, touching, and real, without the emotional tugging at the heartstrings. I love the movie for the (chick flick) love story that it is, but I can't and don't watch it much past after they hit the iceberg. I cry too much.

Still a product of My generation.  Slap or outburst of anger at the breakfast table still would matter to Me.

All of the rest aside, the work that went into the costumes for the flick was amazing.  I could have watched it for that alone.  Then again, I'm really big on formal fashions from various periods.

Titanic is a chick flick, and a bad one in my opinion. How the fuck does James Camron have the two highest grossing movies of all time, especially when they both sucked (yes, Im talking about Dances with Smurfs)? They were poorly written, and the acting was terrible. I will say though, Leo has improved greatly, and even impressed me, over the last 10 years or so.

Now, just because a movie makes you cry doesnt mean its a chick flick. I admit, I cried a little bit at the end of Brian's Song. I also cried at the last Indiana Jones movie, but that was more of a mix of pain, rage, and wanting to tear Speilberg's and Lucas' heads off and play dodgeball with them (it sucks that bad).

Do not mess with the nerd. I take my movies serious yo!

Wow...lots of sweeping generalizations around here and assumptions about movies and who would like what.

Titanic is absolutely not a chick flick; how dismissive to think so simply because it features a wonderful romance.

And I think most of you are doing a complete disservice to men everywhere to assume that they would not like a romantic film. Not every man only  likes chase films.

Titanic was amazingly well done, depicting a major catastrophe and depicted a heartfelt and passionate romance with excellent actors.

I cried hysterically and the man I saw it with also had tears in his eyes. If he did not, I would have be shocked.

To lump Titanic in with the proliferation of silly films is ridiculous.

I doubt that when Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet he ever thought someone might lump his work into the category of chick flick.

Question, Red... What does it matter if it IS a chick flick?

It does not matter what is a chick flick; I was simply participating in the discussion at hand asking if anyone thinks Titanic is a chick flick, which I don't.

Not as much as I used to be. In fact, I dont think Ive seen one episode of the new season yet. The reason I call it "Dances with Smurfs" is because its a rip off of Dances With Wolves, just take out the Natives and add in the blue aliens and -presto- you have Avatar.

As for Indiana Jones... Ok, I get that Harrison Ford is on the verge of being an old man, and Indy has lost a few steps. I also understand swapping Nazi's for Communists. However, Indy has a son? Not only that, its that whiny little bitch Shia LaBouef? And he's a greaser? Im feeling nauseous all over again.

Also, dont get me started on Topher Grace playing Venom in Spider Man 3
