We didn't have a legit talk about me being submissive/D/s/kink until like the 5th date, when I figured it was something that could be serious and worth my time. He said he had picked up on it/had a couple vague ideas based on little mannerisms I have.

this was my first thought as well, but sometimes there is a certain chemistry with someone you meet...

In that type of situation i can see myself just letting things happen, then assessing a bit more after the wet spot dries, if things go that far.

i find it unlikely that i'd get into something with someone without them already knowing what i was into. i really hope to not have to do a vanilla conversion.
but you never know who you'll fall for. i'd never rule out the possibility, but i find it unlikely.

For me I take my time moving things into the bedroom but I've always tried to simply be blunt and honest about it. I have always held the believe that once the other person knows what I'm into, she can either open up and be curious or she can simply leave if she wishes.

Me too. I don't see the point in getting emotionally invested in someone that I most likely won't be compatible with. Of course, having a compatible kink list and D/s style isn't any guarantee of a succesful relationship, but it helps. Just like having compatible life goals (I never understood people that date someone for like two years before finding out that the other person has totally different feelings about kids and marriage then them!).

You might be able to tap into to unrealized D/s desires, but conversion? Not possible, no more than it's possible to convert a gay person straight or vice versa.

This is what I was thinking. I don't think you can "convert" someone to become interested and actively partake in BDSM activities on a regular basis unless subconsciously or consciously they already have some sort of desire to do so. Yeah you may be able to get them to try it out, but that's much different than conversion.
