Let's skip on the grant idea.  I have a BETTER money making idea!

And I credit you with the thought.

Many of the poster on these boards know that I don't like tattoos.  I have no problem with people having them.  I just don't like them.  My thoughts are basically, "I don't like them, but its not my body."

Now. . . one of the pro-abortionists' slogans is, "Keep your laws off my body."

How about we start merchandising for LEOs against these dress codes?

Bumber stickers of police officers with tats or whatever, with that slogan?  Or maybe, "Keep your codes off my body!"

We could do t-shirts and sweatshirts and I am sure all sorts of stuff.

I think that we could make more money in far less time than writing a grant and performing a study.

I just had an interesting thought; and I can just see it now:
quote:

Personnel Dept to Applicant Smith:
Thank you for applying to the Broward County Sheriff's Dept. Your 10 years of military service; including 5 tours of active duty in the Middle East, extensive combat leadership, achieved rank of Chief Warrant Officer, and multiple decorations for skill and valor indicate experience that would be invaluable to this Department. Your dedication in pursuing a degree in criminal justice while on active duty speaks well of your desire to join a civilian police force and protect those in your community.

Unfortunately, you stated on your application that you have a tattoo that reads 'USMC- Semper Fi' on your left wrist. While we understand that said tattoo is a tribute to fellow soldiers lost in overseas conflicts, this makes you unfit to serve as a peace officer in Broward County. Should you choose to have this 'adornment' removed, please feel free to submit a new application.

Having worked on a Marine Base for 7 years and knowing many soldiers, so would I.

As for tattoos, workers will be required to cover them up while on duty. That means long-sleeves for those with lower-arm tattoos, and turtlenecks for those with neck tattoos.

That will work really well in the middle of summer in Florida. I can't wait for the headline, "Rape Suspect Escapes When Officer Suffers Heat Stroke During Chase"

Long sleeves in hot weather have been working for decades for the military. Or have you not seen their long-sleeved camouflage uniforms? Not to mention there are whole countries located in hot and/or humid climates that cover....everything...and you don't hear about an entire populace dying of heat stroke.

I've seen, washed, and ironed them, thanks. I've also seen the buttons on the arms for rolling up the sleeves in hot/ humid climates (they are rather a bitch to iron around), and rolled them to military standard. What I haven't seen is long sleeves and turtlenecks as a requirement in an environment that is nearly 100 degrees with 100+ humidity. That said, as an EMT and former wife of a green side corpsman, I know quite a bit about heat exhaustion and heat stroke both in and out of combat zones.

If you can't figure that one out for yourself, I really can't help you.

Then you haven't seen everything. (Funny considering the other attack thread I've seen you in.) I can think of a handful of uniforms and units that MUST wear things you'd think were absolutely ridiculous *and* are unable to simply "roll up" the sleeves. I've pulled up to bases and seen the guard of said base wearing practically a dress uniform, complete with....well I don't know what it's called, but it's wool and it covers their neck and it's mandatory at some bases, regardless of the weather.

From the looks of things, it's not me that has to figure it out for myself. I've got a handle on it. You're the one acting like sleeves and covering potentially offensive body art is some affront to your modesty. This is, of course forgetting that it's called a UNIFORM for a reason. I'm sure those who designed the uniform did not intend for it to be worn with sleeve tattoos on the wearer.

Maybe its just me, but, i see nothing wrong with grandfathering those who have them while implementing a new policy for those coming into the system. If its a new rule, then its a rule. But making those who were allowed to have them change now... somehow feels wrong.

a) I never said I had.
b) Last I checked, this was a discussion.

Yep, the ex obviously kept his 'absolutely ridiculous' gear with the non roll uppy sleeves on Base, not in the bottom of my closet

This kind of speaks for itself in what you do not know about uniform protocol, at least in 3 branches.

That said, none of this has to do with the topic. The physical standards and requirements of soldiers in the US military are not the same as the physical standards and requirements of county deputies. On the flip side, the soldier who goes down from heat usually has buddies within a few handspans and trained corpsmen close by. The deputy may or may not have a partner, and backup might not be right there.

Ummm, a TSA pat down is an affront to my modesty. What you said makes no sense.

Yup, it is called a uniform, as in all of them look alike on any given day.

I'm sure those who designed the uniform did not intend for it to be worn with sleeve tattoos on the wearer.

Thanks for clarifying.
