I am coming to this wonderful thread a little late in the day, but I am sure the sub in question (from MistressDelilya's post) was possibly referring to as a couple of other people have already said, out of date food etc. Otherwise I would imagine he would have said that his Mistress fed him dog food.
The reality is that to anyone who is not submissive will find this kink hard to understand - even someone involved in BDSM. The same is true for a 100% vanilla person would not be able to fathom why someone would like to be whipped or that someone would find enjoyment from inflicting pain on another human being.
As fannythemaid said it could be as in his case, just - ordinary food except served cold & mixed in with everything else. A Dominant Lady I was once in a relationship with, got a kick out of feeding me oats - but made not with milk but her pee! Incidentally nobody would say bananas were a substandard food, but they don't quite look the same if trodden into the floor & left for a while. (NB when I say floor - assume it is a tiled floor!). His diet could also be enchanced with vitamins etc. Also wouldn't have to be on a 7 X 52 basis.
In the Mistress/slave relationship it just emphasises the true position of the slave/sub - although in this context slave is probably more appropriate.
This does not mean to say that the same slave is not allowed to take his Mistress out to dinner, and of course eat in the normal way i.e. at (the 'at' sign wouldn't work!) a table with knives and forks. Of course making a slave eat directly off the floor rather than out of a bowl or off a plate - just further compounds his degradation emphasises his lowly status. Also as fannythemaid said The Mistress doesn't have to witness the slave feeding himself - as could be secured in a closet, or an under the stairs cupboard.
