Status: offline 		Just like it sounds. A black widow style suicide bomber in Moscow was blown up prematurely. By spam.

Islamist terrorists in Russia often use mobile phones as detonators. The bomber's handler, who is usually watching their charge, sends the bomber a text message in order to set off his or her explosive belt at the moment when it is thought they can inflict maximum casualties.


ETA When I first read the headline of the article, my kneejerk thought was "It would be pretty hilarious if it were just someone replying 'lol' to some dumb thing she'd said the day before." Somehow a Happy New Year spam is even better.

I save my compassion for the living. I do have warm happy thoughts in my heart for the innocents she ended up not killing. This is one of the rare occasions on which I have to say "Good job, universe." And one of the even rarer occasions when I have to say "Good job, cellphone provider."

My best understanding of the serious answer is that there is disagreement among Muslim muckety-mucks and honchos and whatnot about what constitutes a shaheeda (a girl's team varsity martyr). Purists say that a woman can never become a shaheeda through an act of violence and are more interested in rigidly maintaining the culture's oppression of women (better than limply, flaccidly maintaining it!) whereas pragmatists who just want more suicide bombers shrug and say "Eh. Who can tell. Take a shot and let Allah decide." So I guess the answer to the question is a woman bomber takes the mystery gift behind door #73.

This is my understanding. Someone else likely has a more informed understanding of the nuances of martyrs and gender in modern Islam.

lol Not really. I don't have any surplus of love for Islam but there are some well intentioned clerics and theologians trying to at least modernize the tenets of Islam enough for practitioners to find it easier to coexist with everybody else in an increasingly interconnected world. I hope they succeed because I would like to see radical militant sociopaths marginalized and rooted out into the open at the hands of their enemies. The alternative is a lose-lose situation in which the radicals manage to further radicalize other Muslims with sick sad results for all concerned.

I'm thinking that was a harsh divorce. (Remonds Me of the scene in 'Total Recall'......"Consider this a divorce" BOOM)
