quote:
ORIGINAL: CrappyDom Rose, A knife is a tool and a craftsman chooses the right one for the job and puts the appropriate edge on it for what he seeks to do. As someone who teaches sharpening to the craftsman who use the sharpest tools, woodworkers, I have a modicum of knowledge about edges and what makes them work and when and why you put various levels of edges onto a blade. I can wax eloquently about the differences between Arkansas Novaculite stones, Japanese and Chinese water stones, diamond stones, aluminium oxide, and ceramic stones and when to use each and why, I just might have enough knowledge to not be speaking out of my ass. If "dull" is so dangerous, why do we not put an edge on handcuffs, speader bars, and everything else we use? Dull has many meanings, when I say a blade is sharp, the edge is less than a micron across and capable of pulling a shaving of less than a thousandths of an inch off of the hardest hardwood. You are welcome to play however you want just don't spread things as gospel that are anything but. There are many reasons one might use a "dull" blade, just because you cannot fathom it doesn't mean others cannot as well. Thank you Crappydom,I was going to say that...instead I'll say this: Using a dull knife is not fo everyone, neither is using a sharp one. While I dont agree with all things people do(scat for instance)...who am I to say if its right or wrong. Whatever works for you is the important thing, not whether it works for everyone.
