I was asking this question to see the different opinions that people would give.. I think in time you will find your own definition of what makes a 'great' master for you. I do know that years in any lifestyle doesn't give them a Master's Degree. Some are still little boys pounding on their chest..I am Master:)

For me it is when a person is not domineering, and having to prove to the world they are this or that. There is an aura around them, that does not need to draw attention to themselves. They are happy with who they are and have learned to master their own life. In my opinion, the same would hold for a Female Dom.

For me, i am just trying to 'master' being a submissive....or be the best i can be.

I'm sure by now I'm the 900th person to say this but, "there is no such thing." I am a "true master" for Carol because I'm the kind of guy she loves, respects and submits to. I would not be a "true master" to a gorean kajira for any number of reasons.

Lesson 1: Get rid of the word "true"
Lesson 2: Get rid of the word "master" and all the other BDSM labels.

Right about then you'll be starting to figure things out. It sadly took me 2.5 years to get there.

Honour, Integrity, Courage, Honesty, Strength of character, who will draw the line in the sand for what they believe and defend it to the death if need be. has compassion, is not afraid to admit mistakes and learn by them, desires to learn as they know no one person knows all there is to know, willing to teach, mentor and encourage.

This is my view of what a master should be and if it's true to form I'm proud to say I'm on my way. I am new to this and very willing to learn from all. I've made many mistakes mainly not embracing the honor of being a Dom and realizing I had subs in my past. I'm now ready to take the responsibility head on and the next sub/slave that I encounter will be with a more confident man. Thanks for your post.

it's been said over and over now but honestly the labels and all have to go. a relationship always has a Dominant and a submissive and how long it lasts could possibly see a switch in roles. It's 2011 if my calendar is correct and a relationship needs boundaries set and both must respect and trust each other! there's no hand book that says one must be a certain way to be a man or woman. what i think of your relationship doesn't matter at all it's if you are happy with it

REAL TRUE Masters have a certificate from the 'REAL TRUE MASTER ACADEMY'. They proudly display it on all their walls.
If someone does not have this certificate, you can rest assured that they are not real, and not true.
