That's absolutely true, it WAS a long time ago. The FACT is that beginning teachers made less than a beginninng garbage man. Wanna bet it hasn't changed a hell of a lot? You know, this whole comparison is apples and oranges, not to mention kind of elitist. Sanitation workers have a very physical and dangerous job, and it seems to me that you are implying that they shouldn't be making as much as a starting teacher just because they may not be as educated. How many people would really want to be sanitation workers, having to lift and haul all day long, every day regardless of weather? Not to mention the danger: http://wasteage.com/mag/waste_garbage_collection_rated/ As to how much they make, here are the national stats: http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Refuse,_Garbage,_and_Recyclable_Material_Collector/Hourly_Rate quote:
Wanna also bet that the brightest and best teachers get the hell out for LARGE raises to work in the private sector and not have to deal with little gang scumlets and educrats that have never seen the inside of a classroom? I would think that it depends on what their degree is in. When I graduated with a BS, most jobs available in my field to recent graduates were not only minimum wage, but seasonal to start. Had I wanted to teach high school, the starting pay would have been a hell of a lot better.
