That's absolutely true, it WAS a long time ago. The FACT is that beginning teachers made less than a beginninng garbage man. Wanna bet it hasn't changed a hell of a lot?

You know, this whole comparison is apples and oranges, not to mention kind of elitist. Sanitation workers have a very physical and dangerous job, and it seems to me that you are implying that they shouldn't be making as much as a starting teacher just because they may not be as educated. How many people would really want to be sanitation workers, having to lift and haul all day long, every day regardless of weather? Not to mention the danger:

Why would it be elitist to point out that a job that requires a college degree pays less than a job that requires an 8th grade education?

Yes, I DO think that a job that requires a degree should pay more than one that can be filled by a HS dropout. Maybe if this happened more, people would have more incentive to take advantage of their opportunities for a FREE education.

As for it being hazardous, teach in an inner city school once.

You could also try reading the link I posted for Yngblk, earlier.

I did.

Doesn't change the question I asked which you apparently don't have the balls to respond to.

And I even asked nicely, something which I should have learned long ago is wasted on you.

Try reading it again, then.

And as for learning things long ago, RML, I have, which is why I don't bother giving you much thought or effort.

I'm wondering where all the proof of the "public workers looking down on the folks they serve" is.  It sounds like the same legend of the welfare queen.

I know plenty of government folks (it's hard to avoid them considering there's a bloody great AFB locally) and they hold no scorn towards the private sector.  They could sure make more money working for the host of local contractors around here.

To me it sounds like just because a DMV/inspector/etc. is rude, that the entire sector scoffs at the public.

BTW, Walker would've had a teeny deficit if he hadn't awarded over $100 million in tax credits to local corporations.

And as for cutting public personnel, he could start with the 68 year old father of the Senate majority leader and the Assembly speaker.  This guy (Stephan Fitzgerald) was appointed as the new Chief of the State Patrol, with a salary of about $108,000.  Stephan's the guy out looking for the AWOL Democrats.  How convenient, since he recently lost a race for county sheriff.  Yup, he was the best person for the job.

Jesus, if these guys are ranting and raving about wasteful government, they could at least be consistent.

Now the DMV is a fine example, Out, but where it really shows up is when they sit down at the table to negotiate their contract with local school boards, and won't stand for paying a bit of their own health insurance, while the students in their classes might have none at all, or whose parents are going to lose the house if the property taxes go up again next year.

Oh, yes. The myth that welfare queens are a myth. The problem, you see, is that welfare fraud is rarely prosecuted. They get kicked off assistance, but the cases don't become public record. Because of privacy restrictions, we get composites presented in argument, which the defenders of the system can then insist be literally documented, or thrown out.

Police and fire unions did not support Walker. There are 114 police and fire local unions in Wisconsin. 4 of the 114 supported Scott Walker in his bid to become governor.

So Richie, do you want to seriously tell us that Uncle Ronnie did not totally fabricate his welfare queen in the Cadillac story?

Actually quite a lot...we have several very qualified leaders to emulate
Pierre Trudeau
Lester Pearson
Sir Wilfred Laurier
William Lyon Mackenzie King
Jean Chretien

Not that I would expect you to know anything about them or why they could be considered to be great leaders, after all if they ain't murcan, they ain't real

Plenty of both, RML. Your insults are boring, and there is way too much light under your bridge.

The problem Richie is your memory is as small as both.

You started this shit after I asked you an honest question.

Now you want to pretend you are the victim.

But then you are very experienced at that aren't you?

It's always the evil liberals putting you down.

I think you missed your calling in life.  But it's not too late. FOX News is always hiring.

Just... wow. Did you actually look at the link I provided? Those 'garbage men' that you so easily dismiss as uneducated and undeserving of good pay do a very necessary job that is not only physically difficult and thoroughly unpleasant, but constantly ranks as one of the top 10 most dangerous jobs in this country. Want to guess what one of the safest jobs is?

FYI: 25-35 of every 100,000 'garbage men' die on the job, which is far more than firemen or police officers; compared to .3 of every 100,000 teachers who die on the job (do the math). I guess, per you, the huge differential in risk of death shouldn't figure into their pay, since most don't have a degree. The same should apply to fishermen, most of whom have no degree, of course.

Obviously, there is nothing elitist in your position, my mistake.

Utter bullshit imo.

Texas budget gap: 9.5%
Calif budget gap: 49.3%

Money grade, Texas: B
Money grade, Calif:  D+

Holy CRAP, Me n Truckin agree on something. *waits for the earth to open up*

Dont wait on it too long. You do realize those are 2009 figures. Based on budgets with California doing a yearly and Texas doing a budget every two years.

I still think it is funny that the three unions that supported Walker in the election are immune to this legislation.
It's by design. Walker knows he'd better not cross the porkers. Blue Flu has a way of spreading to the electorate.

Obviously several hundred times more than you know about... well.... anything on the planet. As is evidenced once again in this thread, just like it is in so many others.

Bull. There a few fields where the licensing requirements require such but most fields do not require state licensing.

You are wrong, but is that really any different than a company requiring its employees to take seminars and such to keep current in order to keep their postions? IMO, required 'continuing education' not uncommon in either the public or private sector.

"Collective Bargainin *IS* one of those important corner stones that make up the concept of a union. "

Funny funny man. Where in the Constitution is collective bargaining? Where in the  Federalist?

Where is the diagram for the Intel i7 processor in the US Constition or the Federalist? Where is the concept for the Dodge Viper? The Boeing 747? The ICBM with Nuclear Warheads? How about equal rights for the disabled? For women? For Blacks, Asians, and even Europeans? How about inflation as it relates to a nation with over 300 million citizens (a number that didn't even remotely exist on the planet in 1776).

Please show me in the original US Constitution and the 'Federalist' any of those concepts? Since they have all been important in major ways for our country since 1776, and well after most of the original signers were long since departed from the land of the living. If those things are so important, according to your feeble and pathetic (not to mention LAME) 'arguement', why are they NOT in the US Constition?

The US Constitution, just like the nation, changed over time. It was always meant to be a living document and not 'set in stone'. Things would change as we grew to understand the world around us. That REALLY is what the founding fathers intended.

Maybe you should crack open a history book, and really READ the history of the Union and leave your petty political beliefs at the metaphorical door. You really have no understanding of US History; if you did, you would understood the importance of collective bargaining (then and now).

Do you think it's "funny" when public sector unions donate money almost exclusively to Dim candidates? When they vote almost exclusively Dim? When they get sweetheart deals from Dim administrations?

I suppose not. After all, the shoe doesn't hurt until it's on the other foot.
