Joether, take a walk through Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Brockton or New Bedford and Fall River.
Plenty of "Liberal ignorance" there.
Didn't they used to call it, ....."Kennedy Country?"
Boarded up buildings, high school dropout rates of 60%, rampant drug use, high unemployment rates. Old Ted voted for all of those "free trade deals that put tens of thousands of his constituents out of work, didn't he?
But, he was educated. Oh,.....wait,.....he was expelled from Harvard U. for cheating. Awwww,....."the liberal lion!"

While not exactly on point, this shows that viewers of The Daily Show/Colbert Nation are best informed and people who get their news from Fox or network morning shows least informed.

Music, not to Joether, you could be a drug pusher with a sixth grade education but if you voted for Oblunder you're a genious.
Education is a funny thing, some of the smartest people I've ever met never went to college and some of the dumbest did.

Of course US education levels are lower. We're being compared to countries where students don't need to take on thousands of dollars in debt to attend college.

Actually we're being compared to countries where a far higher percentage of students who attend college are qualified for it, instead of pushed along and into it using taxpayer money.

If anyone wants to get really alarmed about USA education levels, they should watch "Waiting for Superman". It's a documentary about how our school system is failing our children. Another point it makes is the long term effects ([;)])of such failures.

Great movie. Its a shame trash like Michael Moore's wins awards but anything critical of unions has no chance in Hollywood.

Popeye, if you EVER quoted accurate facts it would be considered a miracle.

Nowhere in Massachusetts is there a dropout rate of 60%, in fact the entire state has a drop out rate of less than 3% for a total of 8,585 students (2.9 percent) out of 292,372 high school students in grades 9-12 statewide dropped out of school.

It is true that Kennedy was expelled from Harvard, but was reinstated after he served a two year term in the army.

The state wide unemployment rate is comparable to the national average and is in fact a little less than the national average at 8.4% according to the most recent numbers.

I really like how you and your kind are so fond of rewriting facts, or should I say lying out of your ass.

well, this is interesting, he is getting his viagra from canada, I thought he was huffing paint all over this site about how canadas healthcare sucked and the us had the best healthcare on the planet, from his lair as a bookkeeper to itinerant insurance peddlers.

Great gobs of gooseshit, Batman!!!!  Let's go to the real story!!!!

kalikshama -> RE: USA Education Levels (2/23/2011 12:39:20 PM)

It's James Joyner, the putative author of the blog, with the Canada Pharmacy connection. Google search results for James Joyner show a basic search engine optimization campaign.

The formal high education has most value only if there are jobs where the knowledge can be used and extended. The current US (also Canada where I live) economy structure does not provide it any more.  People spend sixteen years at school, but most of the knowledge does not find use. It is normal that high technical education and math develops better in China, South Korea and Japan. So, I think, the US education system needs overall reform as it has not adjusted to new realities.   Simple service and secretarial jobs prevalent today do not require more than 4 years  formal education. People can always educate themselves using internet resources. For example 30% of flight attendants have Bachelor or higher degree; obviously waste of time and resources. Considering the economy structure, the US population is highly over-educated.  New approaches potentially may allow substantial property tax reduction.

Interesting article, and oddly enough it shows O'Reilly's and Limbaugh's audiences among the most informed group. But more directly relevant to the OP, the breakdown below (from the same link) shows no significant difference between Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.

Actual fact, bigjournalism is another "fine" Andrew Breitbart production. Absolutely nothing on it is even moderately close to the truth.
