I don't know what happened, or if the Republicans were any sterner in the past, but I have to agree with the general gist of the poster...they do indeed seem like crybabies nowadays.

The seats are important but that's not the only measurement. Both parties aren't popular these days. Republicans did well because people were unhappy with the Democrats performance after they won the House and the Senate and the presidency. Republicans did well because there is not another alternative party to support when voters are unhappy with Democrats.

The Republican philosophy only works for the billionaire's or the rich and the corporations. [:'(] It's actually the moderates in this country who are to blame for most of this mess. You change tack far too frequently. For instance if moderates had stuck with the neo cons in the 90's instead of switching to Clinton we would have already had the budget crisis we are now living through. Or if moderates had stuck with centrist Democrats like Clinton and Gore we would likely be well beyond the era of huge deficits. But instead the constant back and forthing isn't giving any political philosophy a chance to function long enough to really prove if it will work or not.

Actually Bill, you are an annoyance. You're partisanship is such that you are hard to swallow...I hate Left-leaning ideologues as much as I do right-leaning ones. Its time we just shelved the idiocy and actually discussed issues, and threads like this are no help (yeah I know I have respnded twice to this one when I rarely respond at all, but the point needs making) Stop trying to score cheap points (they are called "cheap" points for a reason) and actually try to present your ideas and viewpoint in an open and non-partisan manner, otherwise you are just one of the worst of the extremist idiots.

I don't consider myself partisan. I used to be a member of the conservative party. I think corporations and entrepreneurs need to be rewarded for their risk-taking and efforts to make a profit. The problem today is the the growing divide between the haves and the have-nots. It's very difficult for middle-class families to make it these days. I think middle class workers like teachers, policemen or those in a factory need to be fairly compensated as well. There is definitely enough wealth in the United States or Canada to go around for everyone to live a respectable life and I think it's important not to let what Arianna Huffington talks about in her book Third World America happen. quote: ORIGINAL: Arpig Actually Bill, you are an annoyance.
