Id like to see dk explain Michelle Obamas statement that she wasnt proud of her country until her ol man was elected president, if he expects anyone to believe that Liberals are really as patriotic and proud to be Americans as Conservatives are. No, what I believe is we have a lot of people who think they are morally superior and rising above "the partisan crap" when in fact they are only slightly less partisan. We have left-leaning and right-leaning moderates, so I guess my question is if they are leaning in one direction what makes them moderate?

Does it matter if the lean one way or the other? I would think their positions on issues, just like the candidates, are more important. Or is it more important that some know which way we might lean before the (any) issue is ever considered?

Of course, no one can "prove" anything about how a majority of people are patriotic or non-patriotic, because the terms themselves are open to a whole bunch of interpretations. Personally, I think that "both" sides are patriotic, in their own way, although I do think that some of the more leftward leaning people, who specifically champion internationalism a la the UN or who believe that national sovereignty should become an extinct concept can rightly be said to be "less patriotic" due to root causes. Is it more patriotic to consider onesself a "Citizen of the World" or a Citizen of the USA (or insert your home country here)? Now, I think Obama has proven himself to very patriotic (and frankley as of now I will be voting for him, as I have said many times I am a national Security republican, and Obama is doing fine by me on those counts). However in that speech, he was playing to a segement of the American left that is not patriotic. That thinks Nationalism is bad. Basically the same set as people who thought Farenheight 911 was a great movie. Which is a minority of Democrats. Democrats as a whole are very Patriotic.
