Though I am not certain what you mean by prayers to pagan goddesses, I am not going to bother with it. If you wish to clarify what you wrote, feel free.

That you ask this, then in post 875 quote a prayer to "Saint" Brigit, genuinely amuses me.

I lost you on this one. Saint Brigit of Sweden was neither pagan nor a goddess, and it's a prayer of Saint Brigit, not to her.

Good point. I saw Saint Brigit, and confused it with the Saint Brigit I grew up hearing about as a child hearing tales of my Irish grandmother. In retrospect not nearly as amusing.

Never before has so much time been wasted by so many in pursuit of such nothingness. (other than the holly and potty show, and seinfeld)

To understand that you would need to know more about how the whole story all began. Much as Abraham was obedient to God so too am I. I do so in obedience to the Almighty God.

Not that I'm necessarily arguing, Kirata, but at least bat guano does serve a useful purpose.

damn, now I need to read the SCrewtape letters again....

(edited because the language -caused  typos at work are apparently catching)

Actually, no you don't.

Moonhead -> RE: A Guide for Dominant Men: How to Preserve Yourself (4/1/2011 4:36:50 AM)

Why not? It's a fine and very funny book. Probably the best thing CS Lewis ever did.

GreedyTop -> RE: A Guide for Dominant Men: How to Preserve Yourself (4/1/2011 6:07:13 AM)

I read it when I was about 13, Moonie.. enjoyed it a LOT!  Then I saw a community theater in Nashville do a production of it in the mid-90s.. again.. enjoyed it!  I agree, definitely one of Mr. Lewis' great writings (well, I still love the Narnia books immensely).

Moonhead -> RE: A Guide for Dominant Men: How to Preserve Yourself (4/1/2011 6:20:16 AM)

The Anglican agenda's a bit less obtrusive in Screwtape, I always thought: it works a lot better there, because it's the whole point of the tale, rather than reading almost like it's been grafted onto a story that doesn't have much to do with that on a structural level.

GreedyTop -> RE: A Guide for Dominant Men: How to Preserve Yourself (4/1/2011 6:27:22 AM)

when I was a kid, reading the Narnia books, I didnt see ANY religious aspect to it.. they were just fun fantasy tales.  it wasnt until I was older that I caught on.

TSL was, to me, much more obvious in the Christian overtones... but I had no issue with it (I was raised Episcopalian).

Regardless, I enjoy his writings because I enjoy teh way he WROTE!

I have never read any of his offerings without being engaged with them....

FWIW, I read the Tim LaHaye "Left Behind" books and enjoyed them as well, not as doctrine, but as fun fiction/scifi...

Moonhead -> RE: A Guide for Dominant Men: How to Preserve Yourself (4/1/2011 6:50:45 AM)

Fair enough. If you don't spot the references in the Narnia books, they aren't at all intrusive.

You're aware that part of what the inklings were up to was a riposte to what they saw as the unpleasant amorality of Cabell, Dunsany and Eddison's fantasies?

BenevolentM -> RE: A Guide for Dominant Men: How to Preserve Yourself (4/2/2011 7:28:45 AM)

Though we are on opposite sides of the aisle I would like to compliment LyghtBearer for showing self-discipline. He presented his truth (whatever that may be) without argument. He did not stoop to address the mob. He thereby upheld his integrity.
