It's much worse than protestors holding up signs saying gays shouldn't be allowed in the military. Common signs include:

"Thank God for dead soldiers"

"You're Going to Hell"

"God Hates the USA"

"Thank God for 9/11"

Some of these signs make this church sound like it's involved in Al-Qaeda. I'm ashamed that I live in the same state as this church.

Gee, she sounds very... republican.

Yet, arent the republicans all about military and service?

Then again, they are definitely about church.

Hmmm... quite an interesting circle.

Ok, can we chalk Jesse up as a vote for Palin then? I guess he didn't vote for Obama?
Hey, you know who else she sounds like? Ray Nagin the mayor of New Orleans!

The Court made the right decision.

I despise Phelps and his family cult but where do you draw the line at deciding what can and cannot be said?

I'm thinking about starting a protest outside the church, since its only an hour drive for me. What are the chances of these nut cases tracking me down later and making me disappear?

Hill, I'm claiming that those assholes are sick demented people who use God and religion to try to force their beliefs on others.
I've never tried to claim that Hitler was a hard core left winger but I suppose that many people could make that argument.
Do you think those on the left, right, liberals, conservatives, populists, socialists, libertarians, greens or any other group would claim the "Westies" as their bretherin?
Mental illness has no "party" or "religion."

A hundred years ago these pricks would be found half rotted hanging from an oak tree.

This past year, they planned to protest a funeral about 30 miles from here and the sight of a few thousand pissed off rednecks that LOVE their troops convinced them to fold their tents and get the hell out of Dodge while the getting was good.
To make it really good was the fact that the counter protest was put in motion by a young lady that was in High School at the time using social networking sites like facebook and it snowballed.

She wasn't even related to the deceased, just pissed off at the phelps cult.

Gives Me hope for our youth.

We had a mayor who decided to start conducting gay marriages a few years back, they showed up and were convinced to leave immediately because the cops started writing tickets repeatedly on their cars. Parked during a school day in the school parking lot of all places with signs saying parking for school business only. Didn't help that the kids were let out for an antiprotest in the lot during recess.

Do they have the right to speak? Unfortunately, yes. Luckily, people in their right minds can counter-demonstrate.

These nuts are not righties or lefties, they're just plain infected by homophobia by Fred Phelps, whose inordinately pre-occupied with homosexuality. Who knows what else goes on in the privacy of their "church" and cult?

ETA: Thank God for the Freedom Riders!!!

ETA2; Thank God for the PATRIOT Riders (the Freedom Riders were pretty cool too)!

Maybe a few rednecks should make this group disappear, or at the very least, an endangered species.

Who decides where that line is?

And who would be deciding against you if you have a viewpoint that was considered across the line?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend them, but I am trying to defend their rights to free speech.
