What do you think of or imagine when you hear the term "sensual Dom"?

I could easily describe what makes a woman sensual or a Domme sensual from my point of view. And while I'm sure the same traits can be found in some men or Doms, I have no clear idea as to how that comes off, because I'm not romantically attracted to men.

So, I'd like to know what kind of men can be called sensual and if that's a desirable thing. (But feel free to talk about Doms, Dommes and whomever else for comparison.)

Anyone who described themselves or came off as a sensual dom would be an immediate mismatch for me.
It's just not the type of man I'm attracted to at all. I like my man to be manly and rough.
Sensual to me borders on pansy.

sensual =/= weak, to me. sensuality is about sensation, getting you worked up, fiddling around with all of your senses and how you process sensory information. sensual doesn't always mean feathery ticklers and light massages. it can be the tip of a sharp sharp knife tracing its way down your spine, it can be the feeling of rope sliding across your skin, cinching your elbows together. a hand in your hair pulling your head back (i'm pretty sure the scalp is an erogenous zone, i don't care what anyone says about that), sound, smell, touch, sight, taste, or the lack of them. it's hot and cold, soft and rough, a sigh and a scream.

i appreciate someone who can use sensuality well.
someone who describes himself as soft or light? totally not a good fit for me. but sensual? -- well that all depends on how a guy uses it.

When I hear a Dom call himself a sensual Dom, it has always meant to me that he's not a sadist, he doesn't do punishments and he enjoys spoiling his sub and giving her everything she wants and desires. He's not the type to give her orders or tell her what to do. They simply like to play with things like spankings and "soft" toys.

It's not desirable to me but I know a lot of subs who are looking for such Doms.

I hate to break out the boring card, but I have always understood sensual to mean exactly the following.

Sensual =
1. pertaining to, inclined to, or preoccupied with the gratification of the senses or appetites; carnal; fleshly.
2. lacking in moral restraints; lewd or unchaste.
3. arousing or exciting the senses or appetites.

Muh lovely girls are really pinging it. I am not a sadist nor top. However I am very primal.

I have always understood the term to represent gentlemen who derived pleasures from activities that were not predicated on pain. This does not suggest that their approach is lacking nor lighter, but merely a different form of expression for physical satisfaction.

Hey TwoShoes, long time no see

I think "thank god" when I hear the term "sensual Dom" because I can't handle more than the tiniest bit of pain. Sensual Dom, to me, is more descriptive of the kind of activities he's into than his actual persona, though inherent gentleness is always a very attractive trait in a Dom. I think "sensual" is just a way of saying "relax, I'm not going to hurt you in the slightest. I'm just going to gently take complete control of your mind and body."

for a long time males in western socity has said feelings = weak. i find it is the oppoisit in that it takes a stronger person to show feelings and more so to enjoy them. my Mistress is very sadistic but in the play there is more than just pain and beating there are aspects of other senses like sound and closenes and distance textures of the toys all of this helps to make the play a more heightned experince.

Wow I'm actually really surprised to read some of the negative opinions of being sensual! Go figure, I learn something new every day.

I see it much as Lilly has described. My owner can be extremely sensual. He can also be a sadistic SOB. It just depends on what he's in the mood for - does he want me shivering and squirming in pulsating desire or does he want me screaming and crying and thrashing to get away?

I guess I don't see the "wimp" in that, but apparently others have had different experiences.

i'm kinda surprised, too, but i think for a lot of people, "sensual" has become so synonymous with "feminine" that they think a man who describes himself that way is automatically effeminate. not true at all!
sensuality is not a gender specific word or condition, and a guy who isn't afraid of it gets extra snazzy points!

edit to add: you sometimes get that same negative reaction when a man IDs as "passionate," too. people have a lot of funny associations with words. to me, though, that's all part of the "fire" i want to feel from someone.

Normally I consider those types to be the ones who just wanna get off. Most of them haven't been overly kinky but they say they're experienced (they mean at sex). I'm all for hedonism but... most of the ones who label themselves "sensual" just don't do anything for me. However in the past I did have a string of bad luck so perhaps that's just me.
