Arpig -> cats and bathroom doors (3/9/2011 11:29:30 AM)

What is it with cats...what do they have against closed bathroom doors??

kalikshama -> RE: cats and bathroom doors (3/9/2011 11:41:53 AM)

It's all doors, IME. TS Elliot concurs:

The Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat:
If you offer him pheasant he would rather have grouse.
If you put him in a house he would much prefer a flat,
If you put him in a flat then he'd rather have a house.
If you set him on a mouse then he only wants a rat,
If you set him on a rat then he'd rather chase a mouse.
Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat--
And there isn't any call for me to shout it:
For he will do
As he do do
And there's no doing anything about it!

The Rum Tum Tugger is a terrible bore:
When you let him in, then he wants to be out;
He's always on the wrong side of every door,
And as soon as he's at home, then he'd like to get about.
He likes to lie in the bureau drawer,
But he makes such a fuss if he can't get out.

Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat--
And there isn't any use for you to doubt it:
For he will do
As he do do
And there's no doing anything about it!

The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious beast:
His disobliging ways are a matter of habit.
If you offer him fish then he always wants a feast;
When there isn't any fish then he won't eat rabbit.
If you offer him cream then he sniffs and sneers,
For he only likes what he finds for himself;

So you'll catch him in it right up to the ears,
If you put it away on the larder shelf.
The Rum Tum Tugger is artful and knowing,
The Rum Tum Tugger doesn't care for a cuddle;
But he'll leap on your lap in the middle of your sewing,
For there's nothing he enjoys like a horrible muddle.
Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat--
And there isn't any need for me to spout it:
For he will do
As he do do
And theres no doing anything about it!

kali, that was pretty good, but you really need to go back. They are concerned about you at the insane asylum. :-)

T^T

I believe that it was Desmond Morris who said (I don't remember the exct quote so I'm paraphrasing) that the wretched door is the most hateful thing to a cat.

I had a cat that used to whine outside the bathroom door whenever I was showering or shitting. It got quite annoying so one day I let him in and closed the door behind us. I made him stay in there with me while I took a long slow comfortable shit and then had a nice steamy shower. Needless to say, he was never keen on going in there with me again.

On a similar note, I feel that all cats are sociopaths.

Arpig -> RE: cats and bathroom doors (3/9/2011 12:25:46 PM)

I've had cats all my life, and I would have to concur

Whilst I personally would disagree to that a longterm date would agree with you...cause the way how my ginger cat treats him is just way out of order [:D]

But in regards to bathroom doors, I dunno...my current flat is so small that I can't even close my bathroom door unless I take the cat litter box outside of it (and to put that one into my kitchen, lounge or bedroom is not really an option), therefor my bathroom is open 24/7. Problem solved [:)]

Funny you should ask Arpig, our cat follows me around just like a puppy indoors and out and curiously, he likes to taste my bath water and watch as I bathe. He also tries his best to turn doorknobs, bath and bedroom both, though he hes never had any success at that.

Im sure that with the right sort of ADA latch he would have the problem licked in no though.

littlewonder -> RE: cats and bathroom doors (3/9/2011 5:15:06 PM)

my daughter's cat constantly meows and scratches at doors so she and her boyfriend have reverted to ductaping a pillow to the door so he no longer scratches at it and he just sits outside waiting for someone to open the door lol.

I thought it was clever lol.

I had a siamese cat that for some reason was really attached to me. And when I'd go to sleep at night, she would claw at my bedroom door until I let her in. She would lay on my chest for about five minutes, and promptly rush to my door to be let back out.

Never failed.

gothikbutterfly -> RE: cats and bathroom doors (3/9/2011 5:19:36 PM)

my two year old gray tabby has mastered the art of opening doors(they have to be cracked though), walking into the room and closing the door behind her. she wants in then she will DARN WELL let herself in! [:D]

xXsoumisXx -> RE: cats and bathroom doors (3/9/2011 5:20:44 PM)

Cats just like to keep their options open.
They don't necessarily want to go to the room on the other side of the door. They just want to be able to. [;)]

Once they develop opposable thumbs, man kind is doomed.

she wanted to be sure you'd brushed your teeth, said your prayers and were all tucked in!

That same cat resides with my grandma, and when I visit her, it seems that whenever my grandma is in the bathroom, the cat goes nuts. Rushes around with a toy mouse in its mouth making almost frantic meow's. Almost like she's having a nervous breakdown.

pahunkboy -> RE: cats and bathroom doors (3/9/2011 6:46:36 PM)

Cats are super aware of water... and they do not like to get wet.  Mine watches me like a hawk.. she knows everything that goes on in the house. If I move furniture -- etc- she must inspect.

She also likes to go in and out of the bathroom door when I do my routine.

Cats have extremely good hearing.  She insists on knowing all that is going on in the house..

cats are aware of the flow of energy...

Not all cats.

I had a cat that loved water and would jump in the shower with me.

My sister has a cat that can't hear worth a crap. He has nothing wrong with him. He's been to a vet. He just doesn't care and is the laziest cat I've ever seen.

And my daughter's cat isn't aware of the flow of energy at all. He seems to be completely oblivious to it. He's in his own little world.

That sounds absolutely adorable.

Say...if you ever want to get rid of that cat...I have a certain pet that enjoys devouring stuff.

Just saying.

What exactly are you implying?
