BBW is not a term coined by overweight women to make themselves feel good, it was, in fact, coined by the fasion industry back in the 70's.

How do I know this? Because I was recruited right out of college to be a plus size model. I had no clue what that was, never heard the word BBW, had no idea there were such things are larger sized models.

Imagine to my utter surprise, I get signed by a top modeling agency for their Plus division. I said, hey, if you want to pay me that much money and still let me do my real job and will be flexible, why the hell not?

And I did just that for 12 years until I got married. And guess what? There were large and small models both men and women and an equal amount of self loathing for all sizes. But the bigger percentange of body issue belonged to the thinner models, who did drugs, had eating disorders, etc. to meet some type of qualifier to keep working.

The larger models also had some issues, with the exception of me and other healthy, confident, intelligent, sexy women. I doubt that if I was not considered beautiful to the agency, they would not have signed me, so no OP, it is not self aggrandizing, it is a term used for marketing.

I stopped modeling years ago and got a little larger but guess what? Somehow, mysteriously, I have retained my core confidence and happiness with myself without getting validation from being paid for it. How? Because of how people respond to me. For every man like the OP and others who are not attracted to BBW's, there are two who do like them. And like them INDIVIDUALLY, not as a group.

More importantly, I never based my self worth on my looks only. I always say my most beautiful feature is my brain.

I laugh when some say that men are lying when they say they love larger women. Really? Well I guess the men in my life lied for years and years and were pretending to be insanely passionate about me.

What I find particularly sad, as exhibited in this thread, are the larger women who say they would not use the word BBW because they think they are forcing an opinon on someone.

How is it that you can think that showing confidence is forcing anything?

Even if you don't think you are beautiful or hot, etc. fake it till you really feel that way. And if you never feel that way, that is cool, but I choose to feel fabulous on every level.

As for BBW being a term of empowerment, so what? What is wrong with being empowered? Life too short to not feel beautiful.

But continue your hating; it is simply, the last acceptable prejudice and quite the trend to rag on BBW's, given the level or lack of brains, class, taste and finesse exhibited online.

Final comment: we are all entitled to like or hate whatever we want. What we are not allowed to do is be an asshole about it.

And those who start fat threads fit that term to a fat T.

I've long objected to the term, I'll try to explain why concisely.
BBW:Big Beautiful Woman.

It's the 'beautiful' part that annoys me, an individual fattie may or may not be beautiful, but either way it'd bug me if they announced that they were.

To quote a penguin in the other thread.
"for one friend it [BBW] means anyone over a size 6 (which is not obese by any standards... ) for another it means anyone over a size 26."

That's my problem: people do not automatically qualify for beauty once they reach a certain weight.

I understand preference and that certain things will be attractive: for instance, provided that you are in fact herterosexual (and since you do not have a visible profile there is no way of verifying you put that down) I will guess that you do not for the most part find other men sexually attractive. (I want to leave a little wiggle room for the Klein Scale.)

But even though "beauty" is so subjective, you must have a very narrow view if you can't find one beautiful thing about each woman you see.
I actually believe that [nearly] everyone has something beautiful about them or within them... but I wouldn't dream of pushing you to find beauty in other men.

There we have it again. Deluded sense of social privilege because you believe males are somewhere above women in the social hierarchy.

As if it really was just a matter of your choice.

Given the choice between you and the vibrator I think most fat women would prefer the vibrator. A slight twist to the bottom and the whining stops.

Not nearly as annoying as all the little shits who want to complain about it.

This was kinda what I was going to say earlier, but I got distracted by FT and Jennislut. In addition to being plush-sized, I'm also easily distracted by sexiness.

nice one woody,I thought about including the "anti automatically beautiful" bit in my post but realised it would be too much for the collarme police to take in one go.
I don't know what world some people live in but in my world I have found lovely, kind, generous and fantastic people. I have also found mean, cruel and evil people.
I am an optimist not a pessimist, but I am also a realist. It seems to me that any post that questions the lovely fluffy clouds what a marvelous and perfect group we are gets totally buried under an avalanche of over protective nonsense.
Obesity= health problems
Big does not =beautiful
These statements are not 100% true
or false
but they are worth making

I made a separate thread for a reason numbnuts.

well the thread was about BBW's not size 0 models.
Feel free to start one about skinny people

Why? I know I won't, because I have nothing against someone because they're skinny. So what if they aren't "my type." For someone to start one would make them just as big an ass as the people who start fat threads.

"actually, 'sub' is short for submissive. Using 'subbie' is making extra effort to use a diminutive which is often seen as condescending, particularly if it is directed at people who do not know and like you.

That said, while I do not mind being called fat (I'm 5'9" and a bit under 200lbs, so 'big' would also be accurate), 'fatty' bugs me for a couple of reasons. First off, the diminutive makes it sound condescending and very much like a grammar school insult. Secondly, removing 'person', 'man', or 'woman' turns the fat part from an adjective into a noun, which comes across as an attempt to marginalize the person or persons being referred to by defining them according to a single trait."

I think you're reading way too much into my turn of phrase :)

"I find that many of the people who use terms like 'fatty' wouldn't even think of walking up to a bald person that they didn't know very well and saying, "Hey, baldy, how ya doin'?" For that matter most won't call someone 'fatty' to their face either. If the term is so OK to use and not intended as an insult, I wonder why that is..."

That's just ridiculous, I don't go up and say 'hey bald person' either, I say 'Alright Dave'.

Ridiculous? Is it really? Why would you call a bald person by his name and call a fat woman "fattie" and not her name?
