http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/03/20/mccain-obama-waited-too-long-in-libya/#more-150901

McCain weighed in, essentially stating that we should not have waited for the Arab League endorsement until taking action against Libya.  The amazing this this guy said was “I have great confidence in our capabilities that the most mightiest nation in the world is now matched up against a third-rate or fourth-rate power.”

Absolutely flat amazing.  In a single statement, this clown:

1. Stated that we are at war in Libya.  We're not.  Obama has been very careful to get the Arab League's endorsement, and to work with other nations.  He's trying to convince Arab countries that this is not US cowboy diplomacy invading another country.  McCain just torpedoed that effort.
2. Ignored all our allies here.  Way to go, John.  Go piss off the people working with us.
3. Gave the impression that we are committed to a full scale war.  We can't afford it financially, and the American public is war weary.

With luck, nobody will listen to him...

It'll be entertaining to watch the Republican element on here make excuses for this...

What can you expect from a man who dared to attempt to place Palin a heart beat away from the Oval Office.....and keep in mind the heart we are referring to is his own 70 something ticker. It chills me to the bone just thinking of it(though given his increasingly degrading capabilities the idea of him in that office is chilling enough)

To be fair to the idiot: imprimus, he was a "My Lovely Horse" candidate the Repukes dredged out of the bottom of the barrel as they didn't want to be left carrying the can for wrecking the global economy if they won in 2008, and secundus, he wanted Leiberman as his VP nominee, and went off in a sulking fit when he was saddled with caribou Barbie by his party instead.

True, she wasn't his first choice, perhaps she was even a choice made grudgingly, but as Truman said the"buck stops here" it was his campaign...and he accepted her as his running mate in the mistaken belief that she would shore up the base.....of course she drove away the independents, the moderates and all others with half a fucking brain.

Other than his grammar ("most mightiest", lol) he is 100% correct and his statement does none of the things you say it does.

Have you actually read or heard Sorebutt's statement?
I know you enjoy arguing from ignorance, but research isn't just for trainspotters.

What they were hoping for was the "soccer mom" vote. And they almost had it... until she started talking.

We aren't going to defend McCain. Why do you think conservatives call him Juan McAmnesty? Why do you think half the conservatives wouldn't vote for him? The only reason he was nominated is because he still had enough senior citizens left that were brainwashed and believed everything he said. He basically told the people in Michigan that NAFTA was a done deal, and those good paying manufacturing jobs aren't coming back. While Obama was telling people we need to at least renegotiate NAFTA. It's no surprise Obama defeated an old man. To be honest, the democrats could have ran Alfred E Neumann and still won. I'm still waiting for Obama to do something about it. Oh wait, he did allow Mexican trucks to begin crossing the border, so I guess he knows what he is doing????

McCain also convinced a lot of people that we can't round up and deport 10 million Illegal aliens so we have no choice but to give them another amnesty. When in reality, we aren't demanding mass deportations. We are simply demanding that American jobs be protected with the everify system. Most of them will self deport when they can no longer find a job, and the rest we can deport as we catch up to them.

Just use the search feature here to dig up the cons comments the first couple of days after she was nominated. They claimed she would draw feminist voters to the GOP ticket.

The next two months were some of the funniest this board has ever seen, the cons could not begin to figure out which way to spin.

Moon, this is one of those (many) times when your ignorance of the realities in my country are just stunning. Deals were made with McCain years in advance, and strings were pulled and buttons pushed, well into the primaries. Not much different, in some ways, from it being the enemies the Clintons made while he was in office, coming back to bite them in the ass, and put Obama over the top for the Dem. nomination.

The GOP didn't want him to win the election, as it was time to let another Democrat carry the can for the damage the last administration had done.
All of these comparisons to Carter you lot keep coming out with are more on the ball than you realise.

That talking point is already dead, Steve. We are in a war with Libya as much as we were in a war with Iraq and Afghanistan when the bombing started in those places.

I, for one, certainly enjoyed the spirited debate and discussion in Congress before we involved ourselves in another middle east war, and I'm sure the Congressional authorizations will come in very handy for him when he needs to shift the blame. Oh wait... Nevermind.

Continue, Moon. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Carter, and why we fired his sorry ass.

Any Republican was going to be a longshot, following Bush's tenure. Palin was a hail mary pass (Google if you're not familiar with American football terminology), but what sealed the coffin was McCain's fumbling on the economic crisis.

And it damn near worked. Do you have any clue how excited the women of this country were at the prospect of a female VP?

Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman nominated by Democratic Party.

Palin, the first by the Republican Party.

I was eager to hear her, wanted to know all about her... me, who is liberal... lol

Then she opened her mouth. Within days it was easy to tell who she was... and she wasnt someone I wanted anywhere close to the Oval Office.

Having watched the footage of Sorebutt campaigning, it's hard to shake the suspicion that there might have been a few more issues than his amputee-like grasp of economics.

Can't let that one pass Rich....even minus the economic crisis, and McCain's silly suspension of his campaign, once Palin sat down with actual journalists and exhibited her total lack of attributes for the office McCain was a dead man walking.....suspending his campaign was just icing on the cake.

And yet, such was the desperation amongst the far right that she still managed to energize the base...those who could not envision Obama in the Oval office clung to her folksy appeal...her hockey mom every woman bullshit...while the rest of us cringed at the irresponsibility placing her on the ticket displayed.
Thank god the election went the way it went.....and that's not to say Obama has not made mistakes....just that the alternative offered the American voter was/and is should she actually run again ...downright frightening.

I'm hoping not.  Our goal here is somewhat fuzzy, but the stated goal is to enforce a no-fly zone while the situation resolves itself.  Once Ghadafy is overthrown (and if he doesn't have planes and tanks, he will be), we can leave and let the Libyans sort it out.

There are some bits of good news.  Chief among them is that we're not going it alone, like we did in Iraq redux and Afghanistan.

Ghadafy has stated that it's gonna be a long war, and won't be over right away.  That's his best chance - to ensure that the US and allies run out of money/resources/interest.  But he's blowing smoke - I can't see him holding out long if he doesn't control the air.  What concerns me far more is that the Arab League is starting to waffle already and is acting like they didn't really sign up for this.
