Corcoran -> Doms and PUAs - a similar skill-set? (3/22/2011 6:35:30 PM)

I've noticed that the Dominants who I felt deeply attracted to had very strong pick-up artist (PUA) skills - psychological tricks, tactics, lines. Is there a similar or shared skill-set for PUAs and Dominants, or is there a fundamental difference? What would it be?

I've always found the concept of 'pick-ups' as a skill somewhat humorous/dubious. The ones who claim the skill always tend to be 3 things:

1. Wealthy
2. Attractive
3. Successful (in their own minds, at least)

I'm not sure it takes artistry to pick up women when you are all three of those things.

I'm only one of the above and I'm not too damn bad at it.

You nailed it. The second is my elixir. I'll notice a handsome man in a heartbeat.

My ex Dom is wealthier in confidence and charisma than cash and can pick up women at supermarkets, airports, dog park, you name it. He does have # 2 going for him. It may be the Alpha Male thing...or the Borg thing - "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."

I was going to say that I was never really all that good at picking up women...then I read this in Palliata's post:

And now I know why [:D]

Power. Don't get me wrong as I'm a sucker for a well-turned phrase but that is *not* going to drop me to my knees.. but power.. oh yeah.

Presentation is everything at the outset. Pick-up artists are short-term illusionists that are able to aptly manifest certain traits that are typically found alluring. I'm not sure that there is a dichotomy between dominants and pick-up artists...they are two different groupings which can overlap.

Pickup has evolved.  These days there's a significant focus on the internals.  Building the kind of strong character which is inherently attractive almost as a side-effect.

I'd say that those who study pickup are inherently more aware of social games and how to play them.  However dominance is a trait of character, not a mask someone can wear.  If a PUA is still stuck on using routines, canned material and so on, then I doubt there's a correlation there with dominance.  If he's building a lifestyle based on goal-setting, self-discipline and self-belief, then I'd say dominance correlates with that.

Having said that, PUA advice will start the process of deprogramming the social beliefs that a guy's had inculcated into him - often by the women in his life.  Generally speaking, guys who grow up with positive, strong male role models don't have this problem.  Those who grow up without this tend to have an idealised view of the world, relationships and women which can only be corrected by other men.

Most times I see PU Skills limited to some lame old fashion passes.. I'm known to go and bitch slap a male who makes a pass at a woman in my care as passes in My Book are insults to the woman's intelligence .. Skillful PU lines and scenarios are an art-form and have nothing of the crudity in them.. Although I have to admit that at CW nights or Rodeos the old faithful is:

"Hi babe.. I wanna fuck you NOW!! Carpark is good! You over the bonnet (hood) with no knickers on is good! Me fucking you is bloody good  and who cares who is watching?!!"

Not that I would recommend that to everyone only those with a US$1,000 to spare which included personal coaching. My new I phone number and a few drink ticket to some local bar... Ohh as an added bonus there is a bottle of lube (motor vehicular grade) and 1 dozen used condoms (aka African Gum Boots)

Would that be because of the distance home being prohibitive for the other 10%?

That would depend on what you mean by "dom" and "pickup artist". I'm guessing that for you there is no difference. There very much is for me.

It is extremely rare for me to pursue someone, I was being generous with 10%.
