"It's just this total onslaught," said Elizabeth Nash, who tracks state legislation for the Guttmacher Institute, a reproductive-health research organization that supports abortion rights.

What's different this year is not the raw number of anti-abortion bills, but the fact that many of the toughest, most substantive measures have a good chance of passage due to gains by conservative Republicans in last year's legislative and gubernatorial elections. On Tuesday, South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard signed into law a bill that would impose a longest-in-the-nation waiting period of three days before women could have an abortion — and also require them to undergo counseling at pregnancy help centers that discourage abortions.

Not to mention these laws have not met court challenges yet. So much for fiscal responsibility. Pass stupid laws to have those laws contested in courts.

Oh the horror, DG. That abortion clinics might have the means on hand to keep at least one of the two heartbeats that go into the room going, if something goes badly wrong. It's the END of Roe v. Wade!

Also, they should require larger parking areas and wider sidewalks at the clinics. Between the protesters and the volunteer escorts, who are there all day, the poor women coming in for a flush shouldn't need to park two blocks away.

Status: offline 		It won't do anything to prevent abortions, but it might just give the coat hanger industry the shot in the arm it needs to make it in the 21st.

Honestly though, I'm pro-choice, for -ironically- purely ethical reasons. I am of the opinion that religious institutions expect far too much pull in how our laws are written. Last I checked we hadn't elected them into public office, so they should do us a favor and kindly shut the fuck up.

Where to start .........

This is due to one of two things. Granted these people are far removed from their constituencies, and their agenda has nothing to do with what the People want, but for them to do something other than golf all the time (which I wish they would) there is a reason they fiddle [around] while Rome burns.

There is of course a contingent of "them" who feel strongly that they must legislate morality, and/or fill the jails, but then the majority of "them" really would rather play golf. So there are two possible reasons.

The first being that they want more children borne to the young, non educated, non critical thinking Parent(s). These people are easier to fool and thus so are their offspring. This is not etched in stone, but is a trend. They want people who are more easily manipulated. People raised on their television, easily sold. Children raised by children. Sheeple. Lemmings.

The other possibility, and not mutually exclusive is that they are providing a distraction, i.e. a cover for their theft. "Look at this" while they pick your pocket. As state budgets go south making national recovery even more difficult if not impossible, this fifty year old issue is important ? Come on, I was born at 8:05 AM, but not 8:05 AM yesterday.

None of these assholes are qualified to serve, and serve they don't, unless you count them serving themselves. Not only do they provide diverion from the real issues, they are so aloof that they don't see how utterly ridiculous it is to have a society in which capital punishment is allowed, but not abortion or euthenasia. In fact such a situation indicates that they crave the ultimate power over the People - that of life and death.

Oops, that's three reasons. Seeking the Bible belt vote doesn't make as much sense as it used to obviously. But then, maybe they think it does, perhaps they are that stupid. A power hungry, religious theif need not be very intelligent.

It's all a bunch of bullshit.

Forcing a waiting period violates the freedom of association clause of the 1st Amendment. Requiring sonograms not only places an undo burden on poor women, but also is an egregious misuse of scarce medical resources.

This is the pigfuckers of the religious right continuing their war on the autonomy of women. They hate free women. Fuck them.

Perhaps you have never actually read Roe v Wade, which acknowledges an increasing state interest in the baby from the second trimester forward.

Status: offline 		The thing the bothers me over it though is you force a woman for moral reasons to have a baby.  She can't afford it, she applies for public assistance.  We scream we shouldn't have to support poor people.  Arent't we creating our own problems by meddling in another's (a woman's) problems or decisions?

Status: offline 		Yes, exactly!  As Arizona's governor gets ready to sign a bill that will incarcerate Dr's or clinicians for participating in a woman's decision to pay for her own abortion and end any health concerns, financial concerns...whatever the concerns were.  We...well, some of us...like to meddle in business that isnt ours.
