SAMHAIN09 -> What is the most surprising thing you have ever learned? (3/27/2011 6:27:34 PM)

For me it was finding out that Hitler the most evil and psychotic bastard that ever walked the earth was a vegetarian.

Arpig -> RE: What is the most surprising thing you have ever learned? (3/27/2011 6:28:19 PM)

Why would that surprise you?

NocturnalStalker -> RE: What is the most surprising thing you have ever learned? (3/27/2011 6:30:35 PM)

I learned that most of you are not quite the parasites you appear to be at first and I may even grow to...like you...

Um he was responsible for the holocaust. I didn't expect him to be a animal lover.

littlewonder -> RE: What is the most surprising thing you have ever learned? (3/27/2011 6:44:01 PM)

that my daughter turned out to be able to survive on her own and do it rather well.

peachgirl -> RE: What is the most surprising thing you have ever learned? (3/27/2011 6:47:24 PM)

my brother in law teaches English 101 at his local community college. several of his students did not know the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

that kind of ignorance was shocking and surprising.

the heart is a muscle
the sun is a star
there such things as negative numbers
time is relative; the older you get, the shorter summer vacation is
the good guys don't always win
people are sometimes mean for no good reason
some people use power to do unethical things
you can be right, and still have nobody believe you
if you swing a pail of water over your head real fast, and the pail of water has a frog in it, neither the water not the frog will fall out
cats don't like to be dressed up in human clothes and then "walked" across the street
your parents are sometimes wrong
grown ups sometimes cry
the teacher does NOT live at the school
all that shit they tell you about how after high school, the cool kids aren't cool anymore... is true
yeast is alive
i'm cute and have a good body
there's nothing wrong with me; i don't have to try to act like other people
there are other people who want to be like me
sometimes being selfish is the most selfless act; always being "good" or nice, to the tune of being a doormat, helps *no one* in the end
i'm going to be okay
i am into kink

Anyone raised by you would have to be a complete moron not to have picked up a huge dose of wisdom and common sense over the years.

I'd pay a king's ransom to hear the story behind that one!

well thank you! But if you knew the problems I had with her you'd be as surprised as me that she's doing better on her own than when she lived at home.

Apparently she just needed to get away from me lol.

i have the picture somewhere, not the one of us walking the cat across the street, on his back paws while we held his front ones, but of us dressing him up first. There is no "story". We were 5 and 3 years olds, and we thought it was a good idea. What cat wouldn't want to be dressed up in baby clothes and then walked across the street.

i'm sure i thought the frog in the pail was having a good time, too.

Sorry, technology inept.

LadyPact -> RE: What is the most surprising thing you have ever learned? (3/27/2011 8:08:29 PM)

I actually liked littlewonder's answer and I could absolutely identify with it.  I had My own doubts about My kid there for a while.

Barring that, I'm going to go with the surprise that I experienced with how immediate and deeply that I loved My first grandchild.

Intellectual stuff fascinates Me all of the time.  None of it has the same kind of effect as the emotional stuff.

You don't have to be an animal lover to be a vegetarian, and people can be insane and still have nice parts to their personality. Racists, homophobic individuals, molesters and rapists; just because they say, do, or think bad things doesn't mean they can't be nice people in general terms (unless you're the object of their hatred/abuse/whatever).

As for me, I could never quite get it in my head that people won't change unless they want to; I recently had the biggest epiphany in regards to that, and I've progressed quite a bit as a person because of that realization. It surprised me how completely and easily I changed for the better, and made me more optimistic and less of a life-is-shit-and-then-someone-stabs-your-rectum-repeatedly-with-a-curling-iron type of gal.

And I'm surprised that you are old enough to have a grandchild!  [:)]

Most surprising thing I learned? Probably that I am gay. Seriously, that was a total shocker to me.

I'm forty-two, Treasure.  Mathematically, it is completely possible.

Thank you just the same.

This is what happens when you keep putting them in outfits and don't get the hint one day they just snap!!!

Following all the rules just doesn't get the end results they promise you.
