You GO girl!  I'm right there with ya......sounds like everyone is taking advantage of mom, she needs to just tell them all to kiss her tired, overworked, and unappreciated ass!  If I knew her, I'd be leading the parade to her house to get her to that one armed bandit, or Bingo hall, or wherever she wanted to go.  Those ungrateful rotten kids of hers probably don't even pay her for the babysitting....I remember seeing something about it being done for free.

I'd unhide PA's posts, but just reading what's being quoted is making me see red, I'd defnitely get multiple mod spanks if I actually read the rest of them!

I'd disown the rotten kids, and cut 'em outta the will.......

Who do you think raised me?

I think it is cruel to give kids pity rather then to teach them to fix their own problems!

*scratching head*

A child mimicking their caretaker doesn't mean they are going to do anything/everything in their life just exactly the same way the person they are copying has...

When I was pregnant with my 1st child, my baby brother claimed if I had a baby in my belly he had a doggy in his.... oh what a horrible influence I was!

He was 4 then, and is now 19. I'm pretty sure he realized that what was going on with me didn't necessarily have to be going on with him at least a week or so ago.

My Multiple Chemical Sensitivity isn't well understood either and on the rare occasion when people belittle me, I say, "Yes, it is all in my head, and I have the SPECT brain scan to prove it."

Shuts them right up.

OK.  Then do that.

Really.  Take some of what Holly had to say at heart.  Your Mom is probably trying to do her best to help out her family with doing all of this child care.  I can just imagine how tired she must be.

Are you in the position where you could help once in a while?  If she was less drained physically, she might feel in better health.  Anybody who is run down all of the time is more likely to pick up one bug or another.  Plus, anybody who has ever had kids in the household knows that they bring home all kinds of colds, etc that get passed around.  When's the last time Mom/Grandma got some days off?

I actually dont consider it to be cruel...or can consider it (alternatively) that you have to be cruel to be kind...

Quite frankly, the kids you are talking about to teach them to fix their own problems are grown ups....quite frankly at that stage of life people can get their own arse in gear and work on their own issues to grow up on handling them.

Recently I declined a "Dom" as it was obvious that he was looking for an easy ride a la I would not only take care of kids with him but also of him, sort of I would be his working horse and he can just keep stumbling along in his low paid job and not being bothered to get his career back on track...quite frankly, it didn't work that way with me, as I seriously prefer to be on my own than with a guy who isn't able to work on sorting out the issues he is having believing that I could just carry the whole burden on my own so he won't have to bother about it.

Nobody taught me to fix my problems in childhood and I still managed to figure out how to get through it on my own. Quite frankly not in every country you are getting spoon fed throughout all of your life

Well, obviously PA, her lessons on compassion and caring about ones family members that are close didn't rub off onto you at all.  Or your siblings.

You have shown a lot of your ignorance and lack of understanding about others in many of your lame posts.......but this one is pretty much the lowest.

Put your money where your mouth is and YOU start being the free babysitter and care giver to your sister's kids.....see if you can do any better or be a better role model.....I doubt it, but at least you'd see it's no cakewalk.

Oh man. I was called a hypochondriac by my ex-husband - because no one knew what was wrong with me for the longest time. My family would roll their eyes and condescend to me if I mentioned being in pain, until I just quit telling people and learned to suffer in silence. When I complained of pain as a child, I was told to stop exaggerating, it was just growing pains. I remember curling up in a ball when I was a teenager and crying quietly because no one believed how badly I was hurting. No one took it seriouly, until the disease had become so rampant in my body that it began effecting my organs (heart, eyes, kidneys, lungs). That was nearly 20 years later. You really never know WHAT is going on with people, or what they are truly and genuinely struggling with.

I NEVER disregard anyone's concerns - even a diagnosed hypochondriac - because that too is a disease. If people tell you they are suffering, or show you they are suffering, believe them. What the fuck does anyone know what is really going on with another?

I think a lot of people would fall right off their pedestals if they ever did try to take just a single step back and view things from a different perspective.

My nephew (he was 6 or 7 at the time, I think) was staying at his grandma's--my mother's place.  She called me and I was there in less than a minute. (at the time, I lived literally a stone's throw away) she told me that my nephew had pain, and she was worried.  Both of us being in healthcare--we did a 30-second eval, and both concluded that he needed to go the ED asap.

My brother and sister-in-law, the boy's parents, seemed to think that he was acting up for attention.  I'll spare the details, but the end of the story--I called 911, brought the boy out to the ambulance, and had he not gone, the story would have had a terrible ending.

PAHunkboy--  my parents are elderly.  I see how hard it is for them when they watch the grandkids--they still do it, but it's very hard.  My Dad gets tired just getting dressed each day--my mother is becoming his caretaker.  I hope you are fortunate enough to live long enough to realize the insolence in what you have typed.

FR  then no wonder why there are so many drug commercial on TV, and so many people are dysfunctional.

We teach kids at an early age how to be decrepid and useless.

How will then kid ever stand on his own two feet?

I feel sluggish right now. I do not feel like doing anything.

I am not certain if you were being facetious here or not.

I don't think you have an awareness of how you often come across.

You have had a long history of mysterious complaints and a refusal to seek timely medical help.
Your behaviour could suggest that you could be a hypochondriac at times (and no I am not suggesting that you are).

You are still here though pointing the finger of blame at your mother instead of taking what has been said to heart and realise that her pain is likely every bit as real as those moments when you have felt quite unwell.
You aren't seeing how remarkable it is for her to take care of your sister's kids at her age or recognise that your sister does not seem appropriately grateful.
And I haven't heard any remarks about what you yourself are going to do in order to give your mom a little extra positive attention.

Your compassion and forethought seem to be absent.
Maybe you really do need to go to the doctor's.

That doesn't exclude you from being able to be supportive and loving to your mother.

Sorry but we disagree.

There is no way in hell I am moving to Chicago.   They all lived here and moved there... I hate a big city.

And 2;

I disagree that we should teach the kids to be a hypochondriac.

And who said that we should teach the kids to be a hypochondriac?

Quite frankly, if your family considers your mum to teach your kids to be a hypochondriac then quite frankly pay for a babysitter and let do someone else that job...not rocket science.

Nobody forces your family to place that burden onto her.

Phoenix-   mom and my sister get along great.  It is not my place to make trouble.  I try to stay out of it.  It is give and take between them.  BTW-  my sister is stay at home mom- but needs some help- from time to time.    My sister DOES for mom as well.

4 years ago- mom moved to Chicago to be there.  I had one condition for her leaving-- and that was that she get market price for her house.  It took a while- but she did in fact get market price for her house in PA.

It is not that I think it is a bum deal-  she just has to mind what she says around impressionable kids-  as everyone of us on this list would have to as well.    that is the nature of the dynamics.

I heard about this issue from mom-  which was comical-  so it was NOT my sister who told me. Either way-  prompting the young ones to be frail and helpless-   ....well- there is a better way.

How can you teach someone a medical condition? And how can you say this so advanced in the thread after so many informed opinions?

I disagree with this completely. I would never pass up any opportunity to teach kids kindness, compassion and concern for older people.

And of course your mum has "no idea" how to behave around kids....cause she has no clue how to bring up kids in the first place, does she *huge eyeroll*.

Seriously if I would be in your mums position and my brood would moan like that I would tell them to look after the lil ones themselves...either accept it as she does it or look for someone else.
