He'll be gutted when he finds out that Bond film wasn't a documentary, won't he?

The definition of the middle east is not specifically geographical. Afghanistan and Libya are noted as members of the Greater Middle East.

A few points.

Firstly, Afghanistan isnt shown in your link as a middle eastern country ( List at end of page)
Secondly, Greater Middle East is a term made up by the Bush administration. I dont consider that a valid defintion.

This is what you all get for reading a book without a happy ending.

Treasure, Afghanistan and Libya are not in the middle east. They are also neither north or south of Israel.

Seriously... does it really matter?  Do you think that modern day geographical boundaries were of much consideration when the prophesies were penned?  Is nit-picking your only joy in life?  [;)]

So you are called out for being wrong and it is nit-picking?

Thank you, ST.  You've saved me the trouble of defending a comment that wasn't that important to begin with.  [:D]

Is it worth mentioning that as Treasure hasn't mentioned Bahrain, it's kicking off in more than ten countries? I'd have thought that was a bigger objection to using the unrest to try to substantiate this prophecy bullshit than a couple of countries named not being in the middle east, meself...

Sheesh... you folks have got to get a life!  [8|]

Pollitesub, wasn't there a line in "Alice in Wonderland", at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party (no pun intended) ....the Queen saying something like 'words only meaning what I want them to mean'?

More tea anyone? [:D]

Since picking nits seems to be a perfectly acceptable pastime in this thread... you're wrong.  The only attendees of the Mad Hatter's tea party were the Hatter, Alice, the March Hare, and the Dormouse.  No Queen.  Sorry.  [;)]

Edited to add:

In case you'd like to read for yourself, here's a link to the chapter.

Thank you Treasure for clarifying that.

I bow to your obviously superior familiarity with Mad Hatters, Tea Parties and their antics.

Just in passing, I feel I ought to mention there is a school of thought that says there are no wrong questions, but plenty of wrong answers ......

Thanks again and do have a lovely day.

I read Strangers post and replied to it, pointing out it was nonsense. If you both feel geography isnt important when using it in your posts, then good for you. I prefer a little accuracy though.

What you pointed out was your ability to selectively peruse content. Your point that Afghanistan is shown as an Asian country is taken. What you ignored was the country's inclusion in the list a couple inches down, and ignored it because the list was compiles from a phrase created during the Bush administration. So from the same site, you pick one item to support your stance and turn your back on the other.

That's what you pointed out. As I said to rule, whether you like or dislike a term does not determine either the validity of it, nor the existence of it. I didn't like Bush either. The difference is I don't run screaming and twisting my underwear in knots at the mention of his name.

Either way, for you and rule, re "the lines are drawn such that either interpretation can be true".

That does not imply anyone is an idiot or a moron - or even that anyone is wrong. Nor does it carry crappy little implications that one needs to read happy endings more often. What it means is that the statement you attacked has as much ground upon which to stand as your assertion in terms of direction and inclusion.

The only nonsense involved in this discussion is willful ignorance. No, that's not right, it's more a politically inspired ignorance, something which the left is as adept at practicing as they accuse others of being.

All of this was inspired by an OP that deals with a cleric who supposedly went into hiding somewhere around the 13th century. If I remember right, another set of prophecies a couple of thousand years old were offered to show a similar end-days belief between differing religions. It may have been in another thread, but I believe it was this one. Given that the best scholars today have no clue where some of the ancient territories and cities existed geographically, and that prophecies often point to enemies in general and vague terms, if you have the knowledge to specifically identify all the current players in ancient terms, you're wasting your time on collarme. There are hundreds of institutions around the world that would fall over themselves to pay a speaker who knows every thing about something others have been puzzling over for years. There is no believable stance that words pointing to things like unbelievers or great whores cannot encompass any nation on earth, much less those you take issue with.

And that's my last comment on the subject.

mnottertail -> RE: Mahdi is 'Near' (3/30/2011 7:13:21 AM)

I had assumed that middle east was referencing the east (asians) and this is provided by dcwoody and I wonder where these guys are on this DNA analyzer:

All you post shows is you have no clue of my political stance. If you had you would see my support of Thatcher and what she stood for. As for Bush, youre right, I have no time for him and his ilk. The decision to invade Iraq was a disaster from day one. I have no time for Blair either, since he decided to send in our troops. If you really had a clue about politics, other than attacking Obama, you would have spotted Blair is left leaning Bush right leaning. I have no time for both, so does that make me a leftie or a rightie ?

As for the your problem with your term Greater Middle East, it wasnt even mentioned in the post I replied to. You decided to use it for your own purposes. You can spout such nonsense all you like but dont expect me not to pick you up on it.

I'm so, so sorry that my post sent you into a tizzy because it did not meet your personal preferences.  [8|]

In the spirit of amends and to help make you feel better, we can revise what I wrote...

The "ten toes" of the "beast" according to the Bible.

http://www.bibleresearch.org/prophecybook2/b2w12.html

Take it for what its worth.

It is interesting.  For what is it worth, the main countries where things have been "heating up" lately are Iraq, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, and Turkey... and Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia.  Five countries to the north, and five countries to the south of Israel.

Of course, that same configuration could probably be attributed to any number of countries, at any number of times through history.  [;)]
There.  Now you can jump up and dance around your computer chanting, "I won! I won!" to your heart's content.  [:D]

To help you further in your need for accuracy, I'll provide you a map* of the area as it appeared during the general span of time (plus or minus a few centuries) when the prophesies were written.  Of course, you'll need to brace yourself as there is only so much accuracy available... be aware that there is a considerable amount of dissent concerning precisely when the prophesies were made.

* I do apologize ahead of time for the limited readability of this map... I was unable to locate anything similar that was available online, so I've had to scan this map from my own personal library.  If you like a larger and higher resolution picture, please cmail me with a regular email address and I'll be happy to oblige.

As you'll likely wish to research further in pursuit of pinpoint accuracy, you should be aware that my comment was specifically in reference to the following excerpt from Tazzy's original link:
"...the other ten nation alliance is an alliance of two groups of five nations that will combine to form the ten horns of the prophetic hour of Revelation 17:12-14 (the kings of the north and south)."
Of course, you'd need to read the entire content of that link to have any idea of its context.  I'm sure you'll be able to find a multitude of sources on eschatology, cartography, language, and ancient geopolitical boundaries that you'll need to further your education and resolve any difficulties that you've experienced as a result of my "inaccuracy".

Good luck, and have at it!

Really?  Did I hit close to home with that?  [:D]

Personally, I thought it was pretty clear that I found your nit-picking to be over the top considering the subject.  Then again, perhaps my sarcasm didn't come through as well as I believed.

Politesub53 -> RE: Mahdi is 'Near' (3/30/2011 4:48:33 PM)

I find lumping all Muslims and Muslim countries as one over the top. ( Not that you did, or to my knowledge have done so before )

I also find lumping them in the same geographical area over the top. Hence my first post on here.

I did smile at you ever letting someone else have the last word though.

One way you could get your way Mike is to bomb the whole region back into the Stone Age. Who's gonna miss a few hundred million towel-heads anyways?

On second thoughts, though, didn't one of your Presidents, Bush the Younger and Dumber, try something like this in Iraq? And fail, rather ingloriously?

slvemike4u -> RE: Mahdi is 'Near' (3/30/2011 7:47:12 PM)

There you go again discussing shit that don't rightly matter anyhow. But to answer your question, about the towel heads I mean...my guess is the other couple of million towel heads. One has to figure they might be a little upset [:D]

I do find your hyperbolic attitude rather unappealing, Mike.   I don't believe anyone here has insinuated that those born outside the USA are valueless... nor has anyone displayed a USA limited worldview.

With regard to whether a country is currently cataloged as being within the confines of one regional boundary or another, there are times when it matters and times when it does not.  In the context of an off-hand comment made on an internet forum with no intent to present or support a persuasive argument, on a subject that is trivial (albeit interesting), I personally feel that it is one of those times when it is of no real significance.  Certainly not enough for anyone to get their knickers in a twist about.

It would appear that you, Rule and PoliteSub feel differently.

Okay, fine... if you have nothing better to do, then more power to you.  Just realize that you make yourself look foolish to go and try to twist my cavalier attitude into some kind of nationalistic bias. Are you all so desperate to be right about something... anything... that you'll challenge any little thing?

All I was doing was being funny,it's something I do now and again. No need to take offense treasure.I find a thread concerned with one faith or anothers prophecy of an imminent arrival of one messiah or another ridiculous on its face...and I respond thus. With that in mind, and that goal alone in mind I linked this thread(if only in my own mind) to Ron's inglorious bastards thread( seeing as how you were arguing with a brit)
The thing is I know I'm not going to please everybody all of the time...but this is the second time today you have taken me to task for one thing or another I have posted....you earlier "lectured" me over how I was dealing with "direct confrontations " with another....what can I say,if you find my stuff so disappointing there is always the option of skimming past.....but every once in awhile I am actually funny, when the moon is right and the tides at the right levels I even at times have a point...so you just might miss one or two gems [:)]
