MrRodgers -> RE: Academic Elitism ? (4/2/2011 5:51:36 PM)

I rarely if ever quote the academics. I seek to learn from the brilliant people of all fields from the past and make my own conclusions. Most of what those thinkers from the past predicted about the future some good, most bad...turned out to be true.

GE made the engines for the F-18, Pratt&Whitney made the engines for the F-15, the F-16, and the F-22.

GE also made engines for the F-16 (as a result of the "Great Engine War"), F-14s, the Korean variant of the F-15, the B-1B, C-5, KC-135, B-2, A-10, F-117, and a plethora of helicopters.

Oops, forgot the alternate engine for the F-35, though it looks like there's a stop-work on that project.

Good thing you're not an engineer or scientist.

"Psychopathic violence?" On al qeada you mean? The one who will win that war is the one who is the most brutal, savage, and unremittingly violent. Let's just hope it's us! That is a war we don't want to lose.
It looks like you're confusing *Military action* and *Police action* where they "arrest" them.
How I "reconcile" those matters is that the military is there to kill our enemies until they're extinct. The Police perform arrests locally and refer criminals to the courts.

Jesus, Popeye. You don't make enemies extinct that way. Quite the opposite: you create more of them. Who needs fanatical Imams to fire up hostility towards the West when we have people around who hold your view?

Tweak,do you not recognize the fallacy of trying to have an intellectual conversation with him?
If you are determined to persist in this why not nail him down on what rights he believes should be accorded to illegal aliens,,,If my memory serves(and believe me it does) he has advocated mining the border(yes actually planting land mines along the Rio Grande).....or ,failing that stationing soldiers there with the ROE being shoot on sight.
Someone might want to ask this so called "independent-moderate" how that works?

Well pops, I guess that's straight over to you.

Care to outline a 'moderate-independent' style of shooting unarmed Mexicans on sight for me?

While you are at it, why is wanton violence - 'moderate independent' wanton violence of course - proposed so often in your posts? Is this your solution to all the problems in the world? .... Or even the US?

It might make you feel good pops to call for blood, the prospect of participating in a petty genocide might warm your heart but as a serious strategy it's a catastrophe, guaranteed to end in a humiliating resounding defeat.

People always mistake what feels good for effective strategy. Every time I see that kind of thinking in politics, I think of the man outside the railway station who bellows at passers-by to repent their sins and turn to God. For every passer-by who thinks 'Yes, he has a point, I'll go to church', there'll be a hundred who think 'Just as I suspected: only lunatics are into religion'.

My personal favorite pops position, and he is not the only CMer to advocate this solution, is the one that calls for seeding the southern border with land mines...nothing like seeding US soil with arbitrary anti-personal weapons [:)]

"The goal of the Constitution Party is to restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations"

Now that's really quite droll. [:D] K.

My! Who'd have thought? An American Christian version of sharia law. Got to be a winner that one! [:D]

We can safely infer that they vehemently oppose sharia law.[:D]

Indeedies! Perfectly understandable opposition too!

There are such obvious profound fundamental differences between Islam-inspired rocks stoning adulteresses to death, and Christian-inspired rocks stoning adulteresses to death as laid out in the Bible (Deuteronomy from memory).

Any one who fails to see that would have to have rocks in their head![:D]

I’m late with a comment so if I am repeating forgive me.

I learn from academics…I listen…I read… I form an opinion…I state that opinion. To me everything I say is an opinion because it is always possible to look at the same facts in different ways.

Now if someone asks me why I believe in my opinion I will try to produce a reasonable source for my beliefs. Usually this source is one that I respect and believe to be factual and often is an academic whose professional field of study is relevant. None of us can be knowledgeable and trained in every field of study and we must all depend on academics. If we want to contribute intelligently to a conversation.

I really don’t understand the big deal.

Butch
