I'd open a business. One million wouldn't last me two years. Hey, figure something out to make money, employ some people. Keep a couple hundred(G) for personals in case shit happens and go with it. T^T

I'd pay off credit cards and car loan; buy a modest house (slightly bigger, and better school district); save some in annuities/roth IRA (to pay for uhm's school and college), help pay some sibling's mortgage, and credit card debts. If I had a lover, I already was in a relationship with, he would be treated as the siblings, with the additional comfort of accompanying me to my better than present home. M P.S. I already, in my own way, spoil families and friends on a small scale; I can also throw a great/internationally attended party. M

I'd open a club for local musicians. Open mics 2 or 3 nights a week. Killer light shows like the old Avalon Ballroom and the Fillmore in SF circa 1967. Lots of really good US microbrews on tap. That would take less than $100K. Upgrade my health insurance. Buy 2 or 3 $150K houses for cash flow nearly tax free (the magic of depreciation). Move a friend down from DC (old running and tripping buddy from the early 70s). Set up an investment trust for a no-kill animal shelter. Convert my house to solar/wind as much as possible. Keep about $50K for mad money, and put the rest into Canadian natural resource stocks (uranium, nickel, rare earth metals, etc.). Oh, and replace my soundsystem. I'd build a pair of Linkwitz Orion speakers, VPI turntable, and other gear to be determined.

Like MaxsBoy said, one million dollars doesn't buy a whole lot these days. What I would do would be fairly boring. I'd put it into a low risk investment (is there such a thing?) for my retirement. Then I would quit the job I currently have, use the money I already have (outside of the one million) and just do work I'd enjoy, but not necessarily make a lot of money at. Hmmm...now that I have thought about it a little more...but still with the money I have right now and not the million, I'd get a personal chef and personal trainer for a year...and then do all of those things I've wanted to do for ages...learn how to scuba, take some cooking classes, take a martial arts class or kickboxing...gee, what else...it's late and I'm tired, so I can't think....just travel....that would be one of the top things actually. Don't hate me, but I have zero debt, so I have no credit cards to pay off. I am not a homeowner though, so renting sucks. But I just can't see myself buying right now...even with a million bucks. shrugs

Depends.. a million dollars right this moment? I'd buy up the dirt cheap real estate on the market right now, in prime locations, fix it up, and rent it until the housing market rebounds. Then I'd sell off a few pieces, re-invest in whatever looks good, and live off the residual income from the rest of it. If we are talking at some undetermined time in the future when the real estate market isn't a potentially extraordinary investment? I might do the same with half.. because the fact is, having multiple rentals in the right places can still provide a fairly secure income... the other half I would probably trade currency with. The end goal, of course, being not to blow it all on immediate comforts and fun, but to invest it to yield more long-lasting security and enjoyment, perhaps leading to independent wealth.

I've already got the winning LottoMax ticket for tonight. Hey, someone has to win the damn thing, why not me??? It's always nice to dream. I then buy a huge ass motor home, pick up Arpig and we'll be in a town or city where all the friends we want to meet live so that we can visit. OR he has the winning ticket, and he picks me up instead, but we're on our way soon. [;)] ETA: Did I mention it's worth $50 million?
