ORIGINAL: slvemike4u Fine, would you prefer the word "distortion"? Surely you are not taking the position that any ,save the zealot, actually intends that ancient tracts be taken literally. Distortion is better. This is what their "ancient tracts" tell them to do. How do you know they aren't doing the right thing? Would you tell the ancient Aztecs they couldn't cut the hearts out of people to sacrifice to Kulkulkan? That's their faith. They are not zealots - you misunderstand them completely. These are people who are perfect in their faith. They adhere to it unquestioningly. They follow the strictures of their ancient tracts to the letter of the law. The law of their gods. and the law of their gods say that adulterers are to be punished or killed, that there be no false idols (the Koran), that war shall be waged on the infidels. Repeat read the above if need be. You call them "zealots" but what they are really doing is taking the word of their god to heart. And when you miss that point or obscure it or try arguing that they are "distorting" their religion, implying either implicitly or explicitly that those who do not follow their ancient tracts scrupulously are the ones who have it right - you are a part of the problem.
