I guess the outcome and deaths, incidental or not, isnt much interest to you two. Even those who dont condone the violence see that there is a link. I am unsure of the point of starting a new thread on the issue either.

This preacher... announced (What 6, 7 months ago?) that he was going to do this and it was clear then it was a giant publicity stunt.

Why was it news then?

Why was it even covered?

Typical that you go right to the name calling, it's your style, but you never answered the question on why it was even news in the first place.

So who is really to blame for these deaths? The irreverent Reverend or the hordes of media that turned it into a world wide event?

And don't worry 53, its a rhetorical question so don't busy your brain. The people responsible for those murders are the whack job Islamist who used
the Quran burning as a reason to behead infidels. But surprise surprise.. that angle isn't even being reported.

Now...go back to your name calling 53.

So again... I ask, why was it newsworthy in the first place?

Mike, you have to ask yourself why anyone has a right to be violent when no violent acts were taken against them.

Why do I get the feeling that anyone stupid enough to try walking by the crowd that did the killing carrying a bible wouldnt live to regret it.  These arent exactly high brows were referring to, in Afghanista. If they didnt have this to use for their murderous rabble rousing they would point to Jack Daniels, Madonna, Barbi ...or anything remotely Liberal or Hollywood as an excuse.

You are kidding right?

Islamist are burning The Bible or The Torah ritualistically on a daily basis and it gets ZERO coverage. But even if it did, where in the Christian world would gangs of thugs be beheading  bystanders for an Iman burning a Bible did 6,000 miles away?

The publicity loving ignorant (wrong use of the word, mike as he knew EXACTLY what he was doing) bastard was trying to get on TV. He succeded beyond his wildest dreams.  BUT again... he killed no one.

This is such a silly statement.

Burning in Effigy, whether its a book or a flag or a stuffed doll  is a time tested, hallmark of political and religious protest. It's origins likely go back 1000's of years. It's neither conservative nor liberal.

The last time I checked, Christian fundies are not beading, stoning and lynching infidels or excuting women for being raped or homosexuals for have sex with each other.

And Lucy... I know someone will say "No... they are only killing abortion doctors" but we know that giving numbers ratios, its a specious retort.


As for the IRA... They are Marxist, The IRA hasn't even been nominally Catholic ever.

I am not disputing the disproportionality,nor the irrationality of the reaction....all I'm saying is ,sadly,it was predictable.
Are there elements of this culture that seem to have been stuck in some 17th century time warp,of course there are.These actions do not fit any definition of moral,or sane behavior that we would adhere to.
But it is real and it was predictable...and this schmuck preacher has stated he will do this again.
Is there anything sane in his response to this travesty?

But that is what Freedom of Speech is all about.

The reporting of this ONE MAN'S CRUSADE however is something else entirely. There is no reason whatsoever for it to even be locally newsworthy yet here it is... being giving  the kind of coverage as if it were a sanctioned act of congress being signed into law by President Obama himself!

And for some reason, you and others seem to want to BLAME him for actions of murders 6,000 miles away. Worse still, you wish to give Islam a different standard when it comes to how you can protest their religious beliefs!

The media gave this guy a platform, without the media Terry Jones is ignored.

Islamist mobs slaughter infidels for lots of reasons its usually because they don't like infidels.

Limiting freedom of speech is a goal of Islamists.

It is fascinating to see Obama's Believers bend over backwards to accomodate Jihadis.

Obama's Left now seems to be calling for limitations on free speech in the USA so as not to offend Islamists in Afghanistan.

If Terry Jones wants to create havoc in Muslim nations he will keep repeating his behavior.

Terry Jones is being given huge power by the media, Islamists, Islamist apologists, and Obama.

Terry Jones now somehow controls bloodthirsty Muslim mobs like puppets and the media pulls the strings ...

Oh... I could think of a few reasons. I haven't seen any of this coverage though... I usually avoid things like religious book burning, torching of SUVs, bombing abortion clincs, etc.

On the other hand, it makes for great sensationalist news. I'm not immune to crazy news myself, that's what I'm always checking the newspaper from my hometown (online at least), we have far more nuttier criminals than anywhere else I've lived.

Besides, we haven't quite convinced everyone that America is has declared war on Islam. Thank heavens we have former senators reminding everyone that the crusades weren't anti-Islamic.
