The exact numbers were never in question, taz. Your post is a kind of a red herring. The point is that if a group takes tax money they shouldnt be allowed to donate to political campaigns, which that just makes sense. Imagine the pained howls we would hear from leftists if certain conservative groups were given tax money by Republican candidates, then took campaign contributions from those same groups. quote:
ORIGINAL: tazzygirl quote:
Planned Infanticide Nice phrase... totally inaccurate. The law bars PP from using tax money for abortions Planned Parenthood said it performed about 330,000 abortions last year, 3 percent of its total health care services. The organization also said its doctors and nurses annually conduct 1 million screenings for cervical cancer, 830,000 breast exams and some 4 million tests and treatments for sexually transmitted diseases. In 1976, three years after the landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, Congress passed the Hyde Amendment which bars the use of taxpayer funds for abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother. It annually is attached to the congressional spending bills. But Republicans argue that often all the money ends up in the same account for the organizations. http://townhall.com/news/us/2011/04/09/planned_parenthood,_abortion_and_the_budget_fight Now, unless someone has proof PP is in violation of this law... Government grants accounted for 33% of Planned Parenthood’s income compared with just 28 percent for private donations. Income from its abortion centers generated another 37 percent. Now, 3% of their services are for abortions. 65% of their income comes from sources other than government. The math isnt that hard folks.
