How is it that gas prices, which are determined by supply and demand are somehow now tied to Obama?

I had no idea he controlled sppeculation on the open market, OPEC and the fears brought upon by the unrest in th oil producing countries.

Just curious....

Perhaps it has to do with him stopping any new drilling in the US which decreases the supply we get at home. And we have to get our supply elsewhere.

Under Obamas plan we are more dependent on the Middle East for our oil, whereas our goal should have been to become less dependent.

Really? How much of an effect does that have? Got some figures to back that up?

Yep...that drill here, drill now thing worked really well over in the Gulf of Mexico last summer....I am certain the oil residue on the beach wouldn't have stopped you from frolicking in the surf!

Face it, as much as we all love to drive our cars with the big V-8 and go really fast, drilling doesn't reduce dependence on a limited resource.

I think you are a bit off the mark on what Bush was blamed for, the last real oil crisis was created by the hurricanes taking out refining and transfer capabilities. Mostly due to a lack of response to Katrina in particular, but "you're doing a heck of a job there Sanity".....

just so you know...I am a huge offender with my 375 horse v-8 and my tendency to drive it like I stole it....but, I can still buy gas!

Got any figures that say it doesn't?

It really isn't rocket science. When you take away our ability to supplement our supply, we have to get it from somewhere else...Now let's see..if we get it at home ourselves, is it cheaper than getting it elsewhere...Hmmm... I wonder.

SilverMark -> RE: Gas prices have spiked! May soon past record highs! $4-$5 gas coming (4/12/2011 6:30:27 PM)

uh oh...it is now prove a negative time!...Now that's logic for you!

Dead dolphins and turtles and multitude dead critters direct ly needed for the food chaion are stillturning up poisoned, and you want more drilling without regulations, yeah thats just about typical, oh btw?

I agree that the flaming idiots will be defeated in Nov of '12

Obama will be reelected.

Regardless of how the left tries to spin it the voters blame the president for such things, and we are only seeing the tip of the iceburg here because higher fuel prices spur inflation and drag heavily on the economy overall. Its a point of fact that Obama has brought much of this onto himself, the BP blowout (which BP contributed far more to Obama than to McCain) was a crisis that the administration used to halt all drilling, and shutting down domestic production to the maximum extent possible has been on his agenda all along.

Do you need to see some YouTube video of some of Obamas comments to remind you of this, or is your memory about these things sufficient?

There have always been regulations luce, and no one is asking for "no regulations"

You are being ridiculous...

And I think a good number of you leftists relished the "poor dead critters" washing up on the beaches because you saw with a gleam in your eye how you could use them to shut down production

Oh yes Sanity, he is the issue...and the previous times we have faced the same issue, it was whoever was sitting in the oval office fault? Face it, when it comes to foriegn oil we are as a country little better than junkies! Always have been and will be until we are forced to different! OPEC, the demand increases by China's growth, India's growth in the use of oil, that has nothing to do with it. It is all on Obama! Bad Obama!...BAAAAD Obama!....

If ANWAR and drilling domestically would fix all our woes, why haven't your outstanding Conservative leaders not done it in their administrations? Reagan? Bush #1? Bush #2? It was just NEVER an issue until Obama was elected!....

Lucylastic -> RE: Gas prices have spiked! May soon past record highs! $4-$5 gas coming (4/12/2011 6:49:03 PM)

And yet you ignore the numbers I gave you to call me ridiculous, what a surprise

What you "think" has fuck all to do with reality. AGAIN
Many of you wants less regulations , you in particular  have stated there are too may regulations in many areas over the past three years, especially over the oil issue with BP
Dont think you can hide your lies

Hillwilliam -> RE: Gas prices have spiked! May soon past record highs! $4-$5 gas coming (4/12/2011 6:58:18 PM)

Bottom line is this folks.

Petroleum is a FINITE resource. We will NOT run out this year or in a decade or in 3 decades. but, some day, the human race WILL run out. What then?

There are too many cool things we do with petroleum that do NOT include burning it for fuel.

This is true to the point that civilization would utterly collapse without petroleum. Why, then, are we still burning the stuff? Because there are BILLIONS to be made from said burning, that's why.

The people who are making said billions will be dead and gone before the shit hits the fan so they dont give a shit and they are spending Millions to convince a bunch of loud but feeble minded folks that changing our energy supplies just isn't possible.

It is not only possible, it is necessary for the continuance of the human race into the next century. I wont be here but My progeny will and I, for one, would like to see this species last a looong damn time.

Environmentalists say "We're killing the earth". Sorry guys, we are NOT killing the earth. This old planet has been here for about 4.6 billion years and it has about 4 billion more until the sun goes red giant and toasts it.

What we ARE doing is killing our species.

Some Right wing folks on here have been quoted as hoping for the Singularity. I am too. For you folks that dont know what that is, it is the melding of human mind and machine to make us independent of biological bodies. The problem is that we have to last that long and at the rate we are going, what is left of the human race a century from now will look a lot more like Afghan tribesmen than HAL9000

since 2-28-09 the market is up 70%.

The Republicans would lead you to believe that none of this has occurred.

Obama cannot be beat.

Unless a TRULY dynamic statesman emerges with an (R) after his name in the next few months, I agree 100%

Unfortunately for the (R)'s truly dynamic statesmen are like hen's teeth these days on both sides of the aisle.

This president laughs at people who tell him that the high fuel prices are hurting them, then he is off to another fabulous weekend retreat.

Without some major outside intervention, Obama is toast.
