I have to admit PART OF ME wishes for high gas prices. Why? The sooner we feel the pinch, the sooner people will get serious about replacing oil with alternate fuels and maybe even better CONSERVATION of what we do use.

I lived in Germany '82-'84. If I remember correctly, the price per gallon of gas was $3.+ Current prices in Germany is $8.+/gallon.

2 things on that.

1. The refineries we have right now are not running at full capacity. During the last runup in prices a couple of years ago, Exxon actually SHUT DOWN one of its refineries and didnt run the others over 90% capacity. Why would they do that except to manipulate the supply of gasoline? At this point in time, the demand is the lowest it has been in years so look for them to do it again.

2. Your 'where does electricity come from?' is correct. That is why we need to look at OTHER methods of extracting electrical energy. As I said before, petroleum is way too important to burn. Solar and Wind show a lot of promise. Fusion can hopefully be brought online but it will take a national will to ignore the people that are spending millions to discourage it because that hurts their highly profitable business model.

Obamas biggest problem is, no one will vote for him just because he is black this time, except some blacks. Maybe even most of them, but even among that demographic a lot of the novelty has worn off.

That, and he has broken way too many promises. He hasnt paid for anyones gas or mortgage...

As I am called to start threads about the price of gas, I wanted to let others know, that we have members of at least one church that are "called" to pray for lower gas prices.

Houston Church prays for lower gas prices

I am thinking it can't hurt.

We just gotta stop using so much. On Feb. 10 I put $USD45 of 93 proof petrol in Sadie (a bit less than a full tank). I just put $20 in on Saturday when the light came on. This $20 will last me until at least the end of the month. I'm fortunate in that I don't have to commute. I combine trips, and postpone trips until necessary (no runs for ice cream, for example). It CAN be done. I also use compact fluorescents, air-dry clothing, wash on cold cycle (except when bleaching towels and socks), turn off power strips, cook large quantities, and so on.

Not to derail Rich, but I just don't want Congress to take away our ABILITY to pay for fuel or our mortgages.
